What color are the parents? The baby looks to be a beige to me. If there is a white belly, it's a beige, if the belly is the same color as the body it's a light tan.

grey, brown, white is not a color, lol. Do you have pictures of the dad? Also, most people do not breed white to white. There is a lethal factor involved that makes it so you get 25% less babies, not to mention the whites usually do not compliment each other and you end up weakening the genetics and quality of the animals.

lol... Nope thats what the lady told me. She didn't give me any pictures of the mom or dad just told me what colors they were. So, I don't know. Shes a breeder that posted on ebay classifieds.. I don't know if shes just in it for the money or not. If she is I figured it would be best to get him out of there!

That baby looks nothing like any brown velvets I've seen. And if the lady is in it for the money, which she probably is seeing as she doesn't even know the correct terminology for chinchilla colors, then getting him out of there will only inspire her to keep breeding.

No, I was talking about the dad.. I know the baby is a Beige, she has another one that looks like its a white or white mosaic. I'm not thinking that she's in it for the money. I called her and she asked me all these questions. Asked me if I knew how to care for chinchillas and if i ever owned one. So I'm not thinkg shes in it for that!

Since I figure you own both the mom and the dad, can YOU provide us with pictures or is this a baby you are considering buying from her? And yes, brown, grey, white is a made up color for chinchillas. There is no such mutation.

IMO, I would not buy a chinchilla from someone who thinks it's a-okay to breed two whites together. That right there says backyard breeder to me. Very very very rarely will anyone pair a white to a white because of the lethal factor and because whites do not normally compliment each other.

If you bred the baby, separate the parents and keep them separated until you learn more about their qualities and whether or not you are improving the chinchillas by breeding them together. Breeding for cool colors or cute babies isn't the right reason to be breeding.

No, I do not own the parents. Its a lady that I found that owns Chinchillas and breeds them. I made sure I did my research before owning chinchillas, So I know about the legthal things!

Ya, know I'm not stupid. I made sure I knew what I was getting into when I bought my chinchilla. I did the reasearch before I bought her. I know those colors are made up, but thats what the breeder put for the color for the dad. Would you rather me put a color that I don't know that he is?? Because I'm sure that wouldn't help either.

No, we're just hesitant of you buying from someone like this. There are plenty of good breeders, so we'd rather see you support someone like that, where they take pride in their animals and know their histories. Because with this person breeding their animals and not even knowing the colors, they probably don't even care about malo or fur chewing which can be genetic.

You have two great breeders in MI, so why not support someone who cares? There's JAGS in the UP and Becky on here is also from MI. I have had 2 JAGS chins and they are both really nice animals.

I'm so lost then... What was the point of the thread if you aren't getting him? You made it sound like you were, which is why we were telling you to think twice.

Just a correction as we are located in Houghton Lake which is in the middle of Michigans lower peninsula. And from the picture the kit appears to be a beige.

Is this not the most confusing thread ever? I've been trying to follow this and from what I can come up with:
Milo is talking to a lady who posted on ebay classifieds.
The lady doesnt know the colors of her chins.

But no where in here did Milo say she wanted/planned (initailly anyway)on buying the kit. I think that the Original question was not asked the the best way to get the answer that she was seeking but I dont know why we are bashing her for asking questions.

As far as buying from a local breeder, I myself am not willing to travel hours to go to a ranch when there are animals who need to be adopted from shelters and irresponsible breeder in my town. Especially when I only intend them to be a pet.
