So, a few questions for those of you that make your own toys...

Where do you get the toy supplies (peeled and unpeeled willow balls, little wooden animals, cholla wood, loofa, etc.)? Also, what do you use to dye and flavor them? Can you use food coloring for the dye? I know that the "bamboo shredders" are also known as "Chinese finger traps...right?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! I don't mean to take business away from those of you that make and sell toys, but I'd really like to make my own to save my money so I can buy a Ferret nation. :)

Any bird store you can find toy parts. Ex: www.windycityparrot.com or use google to find bird stores near you.

Yes, you can use food dye to color toys.

Yep bamboo shredders are the same thing. I buy mine from a bird store too.

What I do is get nickel chain, and a bunch of toy parts. The wood listed on bird sites are safe for chins but avoid any of the plastic stuff. Then when the chins destroy it all, you just fill it up. If you use chain, make sure you buy wooden parts that have a hole big enough to fit over it.

My chins love the wooden barky toy parts from PetProductsByNature.com. They also sell chain and bells :)).
