This is my new girl, Vera Lynn.
She's approx. 6 months old.. Dang pet store still hasn't been able to cough up her papers. Why are they so shady?

I really love her patterns!:dance2:

She's very pretty. I doubt you'll get papers from a pet store. And if you do, how will you ever know if they are correct. She's a beautiful pet, I'd just leave it at that.

She very pretty, congrats :) Did someone trim her whiskers? My girl's weren't that short/ I got mine from a petstore too and I hope you get your papers but i know the petstore i went to probably wouldnt be very timely with such things

No pets store I've ever heard of ever gives papers for a chin...

You didn't trim her whiskers because you want to throw her in with the boys, right? (just checking...) That would be a recipe for disaster...

Very pretty chin btw, I love mosaics...

Lovely chin.

A couple of questions:

Quarantine? You are doing some this time, right?

The boys - you have them together we see - where is this female and her cage in relation to the boys?

She is very cute! Maybe a cage mate chewed her whiskers since they are very uneven. I doubt you will get papers as well, pet stores only care about $$, not genetics.

The boys are at Alanna's house. Vera is at my house, in my room.

We tried a few intros, but Kenny is a crazy bird, and he will not leave her alone.. and she hides in this big tube we have. She made these semi loud repetitive yelps from in there the other night. I don't know if I should bring her back right away. The yelps didn't sound negative, but I can't be sure. I tried to reference this one website, and couldn't really tell..

They said they had em for Zappa.. and so I asked about hers.. hey get all confused and run away.. Haha.. I wish i knew her date of birth. She said they get them from "vendors" not "breeders"....

I did not trim them, The third person [the girl at the register] that we spoke to about her was the first to say that someone previously bought and returned the chinchilla within the last week.. They said she was too shy? O..K.. THANKS!!! because now I have her :dance3:

I have never heard of a pet store giving papers with a chin. A lot of times they don't even know they're birthdate, but what I did with my first chins I got from a pet store was give them their birthday on the day I adopted them. It is important to remember when you get a pet store chin you have no idea what their history is and there could be malo or other genetic diseases so it is important to not breed them. I see you have 2 males and 1 female, I wouldn't even risk putting them together for play time as they can breed in a second and then you have baby chins. The loud repetitive sound you are hearing is a warning call, meaning she is scared and uncomfortable. Since you haven't had her that long, I would interpret that sound as negative because she has no where she feels safe.

Are you serious?

Please do not intro them. Once again, you ignored quarantine, and two, BOYS + GIRLS = BABIES! Pet store chins should never, ever be bred. Boys and girls can not play together- they should never have any interaction if they aren't meant to be bred. Don't bring her back AT ALL. Unfortunately she may already be pregnant.

haha, a second? that's it!? :hmm:

Stackie, Vera is only 6 months old, tops, from what I've gathered at the store. They receive chins at about 4 months.. It's been there for a month tops, including a short visit to someone else's house. I read that females reach puberty by 8-9 months?

I didn't intend on bringing her back, because she was very uncomfortable.

You read wrong. Six months is plenty old enough for her to get pregnant. & since she is so young, it's even more of a risk.

If you let your males and female play together, you will have baby chinchillas. If you are letting them play together, and take your eyes off of them, they can very easily make babies. And it is very possible you could take your eyes off of them, especially if you get a drink, the door bell rings, your phone rings, etc. You can not keep your eyes on them every single second they are out. And while you "think" your chin is only 6 months old, you got her from a pet store, they don't even know! She could just be a small 8-9 month old and then she would be able to produce babies. The thing is you have no idea and it is not worth the risks anyway. The best thing to do is have a separate cage for her where the boys are not even near her, because even if the cages are right next to each other, they can breed through the cage bars (it has happened). You have had her a total of 6 days, there is no reason she should be "visiting" other chins right now either.

Most breeders won't consider breeding a female until 9 months. A baby female can have her first heat cycle at 3 to 4 months, sometimes maybe younger. It is not safe for this female to be out with male chins at this time. You did buy her at a petstore, so you probably shouldn't be breeding her.

So that's a no to quarantine then.

There's so much wrong with this whole scenario I don't even know where to start. So I'm not going to bother ................. I'd only be wasting my time.

I feel genuinely sorry for those 3 chinchillas. :(
