Is there a certain time of year that chins mate? I have three males and for the past two weeks two of them have been making mating sounds, waging their tales and going crazy trying to get to each other. The main problem is one of these chins is housed with is brother. He is now chasing his brother all the time and his brother is scared of him. I have separated them when they are active because in the day when they sleep they are fine together. Otis who is chasing Opie knows he is doing wrong because when I try to put them back together or let them out to play and Otis chases Opie and sees me he instantly stops. My main question is is there a mating season during certain times of the year and why is it happening now after four years.

I don't know if it's a certain time of year, because my one boy does that tail-wagging, squeaky-grunty thing pretty regularly, probably a couple of times a month, year-round. He doesn't have any other chins to go after, but he did claim a stuffed sheep for his own...

I wonder if there's a trigger or if it's just an unexplainable guy thing?

Chinchillas will mate all year long but it does slow down at times of the year depending on temp and lighting. I have never noticed a change in my males unless there is a female in the room that is in heat. Then caged males will turn on each other and fight. Are you sure all 3 of your chinchillas are male?
