Right now I have one male chinchilla and he is around 8 years old, still has a lot of energy but I'm worried he doesnt like his cage. I adopted him from a woman across town and he was in a cage that was WAY too small and had a little wheel in it as well. But I have moved him into a nice size cage, a little bigger than half of a FN 182, he has 3 levels and several ledges in between. But Im worried he doesnt like it because I dont really see him playing in it other than going down to get food and running in his silver surfer. I have been looking for a FN cage to upgrade to but Im worried he wont like it. Also I am looking for something a little more sturdy so that when he runs in his wheel it doesnt shake the entire cage and make a ton of noise. What do you think? worth it to upgrade?

A single level ferret nation is very adequate for 1 chin, and even for 2. It sounds like the cage you have is good on size, but if the noise makes you crazy (and most folks would be bothered by it) and you have the money for it, I would go for a better quality cage.

Do you think the cage you have might be more sturdy if you were to strategically place some wooden shelves? It's possible that might shore it up enough that you wouldn't need to invest in a new cage right now.
