This is Apple. She's been with me for 1 week now. I thought I'd share a photo of her. She's just the sweetest girl. She's 4 years old and when she came home with me, she decided she would go on a hunger strike. I still haven't seen her drink on her own, but I have seen the water level go down slightly in the last 2 days and just now she is starting to nibble a bit of hay. She's pretty skinny and we are still handfeeding critical care, but I'm hopeful she'll turn a corner soon. I just really wanted to share her photo.

That photo is insanely cute. I hope she starts eating for you and hopefully she's just nervous and scared of the new place and will turn around soon.

When I first brought home two of my chins they were very hesitant to eat. she's so very cute and I hope that she starts to turn into a chunker soon, keep us updated and welcome to the forum! :))

So cute! I just remembered my first female chin was like that when we got her. She went from her family, to a pet store, then our home. I put her in our empty spare bedroom for a couple weeks and she started eating and drinking when I did that. She looks like she's turned the corner and feeling better about her self now. Such emo's lol

She looks like she is popping up to say hello! Very cute!!

Hey Jd- how much does she weigh?

I'm glad to hear I'm in good company! She weighed 300g at the vet last Tuesday, but I'm sure she's dropped a little since (I need my own scale). She's on the critical care, because she had stopped eating and drinking altogether and was constipated. When I noticed her starting to nibble more yesterday, I eased back on the critical care. Last night was the first time since her coming to us that she had normal poops. I have gotten such great advice on this forum, which was nice to double check against what the vet said. The vet said they are exotic specialists, but I think they lack some experience. When I brought her in for her visit, the tech was afraid of her and wanted me to put her down on the dog scale in the back and let go of her! And, come to find out they HAVE a vet who specializes, but it isn't the one we saw. The good thing was they gave her subcutaneous shots. On the way out the door, they told me to "keep her nice and warm". Yesterday, they told me to give her kale and grass from my yard. When I asked about the Kale maybe causing gas/bloat and the fact my yard was fertilized just last summer, they said it would be okay...that the chemicals were probably gone by now and the watery kale will help loosen her stools. I didn't give it to her and I'm searching for a new vet. I'm pretty sure she's starting to slowly adjust to the change of home now and will start eating more and turn in to the healthy chunck my other girl is. There is something about these sweet creatures, they are so funny and endearing.

I love that pic! She looks so personable!!! I'm hoping she's just being a pill for you and will settle down soon and eat and drink like she should.

Long Ears

Goodness, those ears are long.
LOL!!! I read your post right before I answered a call at work and had to fight back a laugh. I thought her ears might be a little on the long side. (oh, my, what long ears you have....the better to hear you with my dear) She is such a cutie pie. It was hard, but last night a held off on the critical care and she munched a bunch of hay and left a bunch of nice looking poops. I think we're over the toughest part.

that's a cute picture! but did i read correctly that she's 4 years old and 300 grams? my 4 month old is already 460 grams...

Yes - that was correct. She was so bony and frail, I was afraid just picking her up would break bones.
I'm happy to report she is eating, drinking, pooping and playing almost normally now. Although she's still a little on the skinny side, her weight is MUCH improved. I feel confident we are out of the woods with her. When she finally did start to eat on her own, I noticed she would only nibble her Timothy hay. Just in the last week, she has started to eat her pellets now too. Yay!
