AZChins
Pro Cage Cleaner Champion
I have spoiled this chinchilla and I made him the way he is. It is all my fault, but I felt it was necessary because he was really in bad shape and had to be loved.
I picked up Butters and his friend this past winter in Phoenix. They needed a new home because their owner couldn't find an apartment that would take chins with her budget.
Butters was here for four days with his buddy when early one morning he was attacked and nearly killed. It had nothing to do with anything, there was no warning. I think that it was just the new environment. There were no girls anywhere around, no other chins...just a new cage because I didn't get their old one.
So, I found Butters at the bottom of his cage bitten up all over his head and back. I immediately sprang into action and got his blood sugar up and got him eating. It seems like most of the time when chins are beat up they lose all motility in the digestive tract. The vet helped out with some Reglan and critical care and some pain meds.
I got him eating within a couple days, and he started healing. For two months he couldn't jump because the wound on his back hurt so bad. He scabbed up beautifully and started gaining more and more mobility. Four months later he's nearly 100%. He's building muscle in those back legs again and he's into everything. He just has one ear that is a little messed up, but considering the fact that he nearly died since he lost so much blood and was torn up all over.
The problem is that he is now so spoiled that he believes he can control me with his thoughts. He sticks that little nose out and demands attention all the time. He jumps out on my hands and demands playtime. He wants to ride in the pouch all the time...I mean ALL THE TIME.
I found him a home, he will be leaving in a month or two...I just don't know if I can give him THAT much attention. He's the type of chin that would be with me constantly or out constantly if I only had him and a few others. He is very sweet, but very demanding and he thinks that he can get away with anything...and he's right, he can get away with most everything. His new mama said that she is happy he is like that, he's just like a little human baby with his need for attention and his whining... heee...
Enjoy my bad pictures of Lord Butters... Shhhh...don't wake him up or I will have to take him out for playtime.
