I might be a member soon, too! If I'm not able to get a FN off of CL, then I'm building my own cage.

But if I buy a used cage, how do I be sure the person who had it before me didn't use harmful cleaners? Would cleaning it with a vinegar/water mix get rid of the harm?

Just get a good scrub brush, use vinegar, and water, and do a good cleaning. I'm sure everything would be just fine. No way of telling what the previous owners would have used.

Thanks, I was just a bit worried because a friend mentioned that if they cleaned it with harmful stuff it could kill her~~

I bought mine used. I cleaned it outside with the hose and rinsed it out really well. Then I scrubbed and cleaned it with vinegar and water. Then rinsed really well again with the hose.

i just set up my fn 142 and now i can join this club!!!! keep in mind they arnt all the way done im going to put more wooden shelves and hammocks and cuddle beds just got to make those. the argyle is the boys cage. and the zebra is the girls!

Michelle, where did you get those toys that have the multiple hangy parts?

i get all of my toys from twilight chinchillas. my chinnies absolutely love them all. i want to say they are about 12 bucks a toy but they are huge and last awhile.. well except calistas she went kinda crazy for hers lol

Here's a few of the photos.
The only real change is that I removed their toy swing as they refused to go near it and used the chains filled with chews as hangars AND I removed the "dog" food pans to the bottom to use as litter pans and am using metal corner litter pans for the top that I ordered from Teresa.

Ps. Thanks Stephanie! You can see how cute the liners and hidey houses are :)

Wow! Hanging toy heaven!

Agreed!

Just wanted to also quickly mention to be careful with the mineral chews you have in there. Chins don't need the excess vitamins & minerals as long as they are on a high quality pellet. That much excess calcium can cause stones in their urinary tract.

You mean the mineral chews? (banan, grape, and pineapple shaped ones)?

yep, the fruit shaped ones. chins don't need them as long as they are on a good pellet.

now you just need some cute fleece tube covers!

I actually like the metal tubes without the fleece for summer. I'm sure they are quite comfy during these warmer months. Are they just coffee tins?

@ChinnyMom they're on Mazuri, just learned about the calcium the other day despite having them for years. Sadly, they've always had several to gnaw on...although they've lost total interest in them lately. After learning about this they were tossed in the trash as of 2 days ago.

@Essentia basically coffee tins, got them from fuzzieskingdom BEFORE learning about the Kuhn Rikon Slim Safety LidLifter. Now I simply make my own "tunnels" (some mounted and some just placed on the floor for fun). I prefer not to put fleece over them because I don't want to have to constantly take them down for laundering. My boys have an a/c that runs 24/7 being their cage is in a bedroom so no worries of staying cool for them (besides when we have a power failure). But your definately right, they do stay nice and cool!

No More Plastic and finally got enough wood to make poo guards for the main ledges.
