Chins can certainly handle colder temps better than hotter ones. I would think that if humans are able to tolerate the low temperatures in the upper room, than chins who are born with that wonderfully plush coat can handle it even better.

My biggest concern for yours would be any sudden changes. The move from one extreme to another is what caused all kinds of problems just getting chins off the Andes Mountains! Which reminds me, does anyone know offhand how cold it gets in the regions of the Andes where wild chins live?

Hey all thanks for yer replies! The room i wanted to put them in upstairs is our bathroom and everywhere upstairs is freezing cold. Will look into a heater for the room cause i can't really leave them out anywhere else or they'd disappear behind something.

35 isn't freezing but its not far from it! They aren't used to heat cause here in Ireland we rarely ever get much heat lol. But they would probably not be used to that cold.

Thanks again!

I live in hot and humid very So Fla and I think the chins have somewhat acclimated to it. I keep the A/C on 75 during the summer months (with 90-100 degrees outside, this makes for a near $500/month electric bill with no humans home during the day, so PLEASE don't tell me to lower it further!) In the winter, 68 -- all 5 days of it. Pretty much either A/C or heat on down here every day - LOL.

One of my worse nightmares came true a year and a half ago in June -- the central A/C went out during the day and I had no way of knowing. When I got home it was over 90, and I nearly had a stroke. The chinnies were okay. I immediately plugged in my emergency portable A/c and put cans of Coke in sox in their cage, froze their chinchillers, etc. I was extremely lucky there were no problems, but I think the fact that "normal" was 75 helped them tolerate it better. I immediately bought a new central A/C as I did not want to risk the old one dying again, even though they fixed it.

I live in constant fear of another hurricane followed by 10 days of no electricity. But I did buy a generator and the portable A/C. All you can do is all you can do!
