okay my hedge Dexter has been moved to the basement where it can be quiet. it is a little chilly down there at times but he has one of those big red dome heat lights that you use for baby chickens or something so it keeps his cage at about 75-80 something degrees. I've noticed that Dexter has stopped running on his wheel. he only eats, drinks, and then goes back to bed. He has been sleeping a lot lately too. I'm very worried about him because he has tried to go into hibernation before and i had to put him on a heating pad with blankets around him and I've heard that once a hedgehog tries to hibernate it will try it again. I would like to move him upstairs where i can keep a close eye on him but my mom won't allow it. I really need help!

He also has mucus like poop. It isn't full like it usually is. He isn't wobbly either but he doesn't run on his wheel a lot like he used to.

It could be the red heat light. If it emits any light at all it could be bothering him and causing him to not come out as much as he should be. Do you have another way to warm his cage for an evening to test my theory? A space heater or can you move him to a warmer location for a bit?

Is his appetite down? How is his weight?

I moved him upstairs into my room and reached his light with a black light but his poop is still not right..

For the record black lights can still bother a Hedgie ;)
Geting a heat emmiter bulb (they look like flat white bulbs and produce only heat no light) or small space heater are the best options...

Any changes in his food lately?
