safe wood?

I am I new chin owner, I love my baby jinx, I believe she is over a year old! I have a question regarding wood and where to get it. I cannot find kiln dried white pine at Home Depot or Lowe's, but I did find white wood, although I Dont know if it's safe for my chin! I did manage to find kiln dried radiata pine on lowes.com, but when I called them and gave them the item # the wood was under another name, I believe it was called soft wood, something like that. Do I trust that it is the same wood and just get it or do I pass on it? Thank you!!! I love this site!

I've never heard of that wood so I had to look it up.

Here is what I've found...
Native to Central Coast of California and Mexico. Is versatile, fast-growing, medium-density softwood, suitable for a wide range of end-uses.
a species adapted to cope with stand-killing fire disturbance. Its cones are serotinous, i.e. they remain closed until opened by the heat of a forest fire; the abundant seeds are then discharged to regenerate on the burned forest floor. The cones may also burst open in hot weather.

Also, I was told Lowe's labels their KD Pine as KD Whitewood.

They also sell poplar and that can be used. And it doesn't have the knotholes that pine tends to have.

White wood is all harvested together and can be spruce, pine, or fir. All of them are very similar and hard to tell apart, but from what I can tell all are actually safe if kiln dried.

Fuzz on apple sticks

This isn't the clearest picture, but I'm wondering what the white fuzzy stuff on our apple wood sticks is. It doesn't look like the black or green mold I've read about.
Is this normal?
