My hedgie PigPen is more of an adventurer than a snuggler, but I don't feel like I have a good area for him to play in. I have hard wood floors that are not in the best shape and old dogs with old bladders. I don't want PigPen to risk a splinter or have dog smells that might frighten him. I was wondering if there was a material that I could put down just for him to have supervised playtime on and then pick up and put away when he was back in his home. I was thinking a yoga mat or a hard foam children's play mat. Any advice on this would be appreciated. Thanks!

I've used fleece blankets. Though I have carpeted floors, so that's not so good when they pee as it'll leak through. More recently I inherited large sheets meant to protect mattresses from nocturnal enuresis. In addition to being pee-proof, they're also covered with a fabric that's soft. I rather like them. Never would have thought of it on my own... but there they were. I'm not sure where you get them though... maybe kiddie bedding section??

Some bed pads are reusable, they are usually the ones with fabric on them I believe. They can be found in the kid or adult sections, and I've heard you can get a pretty decent amount of them at places like Sam's club. I think this is what smhufflepuff is thinking of :)

I echo the yoga mat, more specifically there are ones from walmart that fit together like puzzle pieces ($10 for 6 of them I think). Quick, easy, and washable. Wash them first actually, because they have that rubbery plastic smell so who knows - it probably best to be safe.
