A couple months back a female chin came to live with me. She was suspected to be pregnant from the owner and the lady wanted her gone. I already have the daddy chin, he came to live here because of an injured leg that was made worse by someone trying some home veterinary cures on him. (He lost his toes and part of his foot, but he's doing alright and is recovering.)

Turns out the mama was pregnant. I am so very glad she came to live here since when I first got her she was skin and bones. She plumped up right away and her babies were 56 and 64 grams at birth (probably because of the extra supplementation!)

Both babies are pink whites and are girls. Mama is doing really well and she seems to like being a mother even though she was sort of forced to be one under pretty bad conditions. Hopefully I can find them a home that will take all three together when the babies are ready to go in a few months. Until then, I get to play with them. All three girls are very friendly already and are above average in tolerating being held. :D

They are adorable! I find myself disliking people more and more everyday these days fpr what they do. I have taken in rescues when I can over the years and frankly I don't know that I could do it anymore just because of how sick people make me with the way they treat animals and other human beings. How people treat their pets says a lot about what kind of person they are

Oh wow are they CUTE! :)) Bless you for taking in momma and getting her and her then unborn kits back to health!

I adopted my boys from a rescue that got their mother as a surrender to an animal shelter. She became pregnant and they didnt want to deal with babies. She went on to have a girl and two beautiful boys. She and her daughter were adopted by someone before I met my boys but I often think of that twist of fate. As disheartening as it is that there are people out there that can be so heartless, I sure am glad that there are just as many wonderful caring people that take it upon their selves to make up for the rest.

Its amazing that these cute little girls could come out of what was such a sad situation. Thank you for all you do, Susan! I hope you find someone to take them as a trio.

What sweethearts. They're so lucky to have found you Susan! Hope everyone continues to do well!

Oh my goodness, Susan! They look just like Mr Jasper! How cutie patootie are they!? OMG, good thing they are girlies, I just wanna grab em and love em up. Thanks for putting up pics. It really made my night!

I can only imagine that rewards like those two make you feel so lucky to help chins in need! They are adorable! You are an awesome person for all that you do!

They make me feel very lucky! But the thing is...I didn't really do much besides take care of the mama chin the way she should have been cared for in the first place. :) It wasn't much work at all and I am more than happy to provide a safe place and good food for any chins that need it.

Getting her and the other boy was all part of a mission by some very caring people up in Phoenix to get the chins out of a very bad situation. They first managed to get Jasper, the daddy chin. Determined to make sure that he wouldn't be forced to endure more suffering at the hands of a backyard breeder they managed to get him out of there.

Another person came into the mission and managed to get the mama chin even though everyone was told there were no more chins in the house. Turns out that was a total lie. So, more people became involved to get Amelia out of there!

It worked out pretty well. It wasn't just me involved...it took a group of people to get the chins to where they are now. Chinchilla people are like that...they see chins in need on Craig's List or hear something and they do what needs to be done.

I can't take much credit for this!

Susan, you get to take 99.9% of the credit for this. Jasper was in danger of losing his leg because of what that woman did to him! He's lucky he only lost the toes to gangrene. It's sad, but I think there was nothing on your part that could have prevented that. And its a whole lot better than losing the whole leg. That woman was horrible that had them. I hope Amelia was the last chinny she had, cause she had no business having any (especially while running a cat and kitten "rescue" out of the same house).

I'm so glad you got Amelia in time to get some good stuff in her to make those babies healthy and adorable. :D

Come on...everyone worked together to get the chins out of there! That was 99.9% of the battle. :p All I did was what I do all the time.

The babies are crawling all over the place this morning and bouncing. Sweet sweet little babies. Jasper is slowly healing.

If anyone is interested, Jasper's leg was injured. I believe it wasn't a very bad wound but his former owner did not want to take him to the vet because "she had no money." When he was rescued his leg was black due to dried gangrene all over it. She actually injected him with hydrogen peroxide because she was told it would bring down the swelling. All that did was cause tissue death and more swelling. (and probably more pain than I can imagine.)

It appeared that she tried to dress the wound but couldn't get the bandage to stay put. So what did she do? Well, it looks like she used a rubber band (or something too tight) to hold it on - that caused a constriction and loss of blood flow.

Now the chin has a lot of scar tissue, probably some nerve damage and a very slowly healing wound on his foot and leg. The vet is confident that we can save the leg so that he will at least be able to have some use of it. If it doesn't get better in the next three to four weeks, he may end up losing the leg.

We don't know how long this went on with his leg, it was probably over a month. The supposed cause of the original injury was he got caught in a ladder in his cage. The leg was not broken, but the care he got for the wound was very sub par. If it had been cared for in a timely manner and been cleaned out properly, he probably would have healed in a couple weeks.

And, yes...the woman had twenty or more cats in her house and it smelled like cat urine in there. Not a good situation for chins to say the least.

Yeah, the lady who had them was unwilling to spend any money on a vet, hence how he ended up on Craigslist.. She took him to one of those Banfield places in the Petsmart on a free visit coupon, for them to tell her she would have to pay to have Jasper's leg amputated. I don't know how long she waited before going in for that visit, it was almost impossible to get a straight answer out of her. I should post the pics of how terrible his leg looked, all raw and matted with icky and fur. She definitely had something binding the leg and restricting the blood flow.

I would hate to see what would have happened if Amelia had had birthing complations while in her care. They would have all died for sure.

You are awsome for taking Jasper and Amelia and making sure they get the best care possible. I think you and Dr Samuels make an awesome chinny rescue team combined. I wish we could clone the Dr and put his clone up here in Phx somewhere.

oh how i love pink whites. I bet momma is thankful you got her out of that situation

what adorable sweethearts! I'm glad they all have a good home now and at least the babies are healthy and weren't subject to the terrible conditions that mom and dad were in. Good luck finding them a forever home!

The kits are adorable and it's great they are doing so well! Could have been a much different outcome if momma hadn't gotten the care she needed.

The kits are sooooooooo adorable! The whole family is very lucky to have you and all the people that helped to get them out of that home. Just out of curiosity did the humane society get involved for animal cruelty not just on the chins, but the cats as well.

I know there was some discussion between everyone involved as to reporting the woman. It's a complicated situation. My BF and I rescued Jasper initially from the CL ad, we never saw the womans house as she met us somewhere else to hand him over. My BF went with 2 other people to get Amelia, but again, he didn't go in the house as he was afraid of the woman recognizing him from the first incident (he didn't want her to change her mind about giving the chin up and because he was kind of mean to her the first time around when he almost yelled at her when she was talking about INJECTING Jaspers leg with peroxide). So the only people who saw the conditions the chins and cats are living in was the 2 people he went with on the second trip. I don't think they have plans to report anything. They said the house smelled like cat urine, and didn't see any cats but could hear them, so they must have been all closed in a room somewhere.
We also know that the woman calls herself a "cat rescue" and solicits paypal donations on her site, but goes on to explain that her side business of grooming (dogs AND cats) at her home is something she has to accept donations for as well, she cannot set a price because her insurance told her she couldn't? I dunno, it basically sounds like she doesn't have an actual 501 (c) 3, so any of her donations would pretty much be reportable income but she's doing what she can to not report it. She's not terribly intelligent from everything everywhere that we know about the situation. We haven't even gone into the fact that she was emailing Susan several weeks before Jaspers accident, asking her about chinchilla gestation times, etc (BYB anyone?). But then when it came time to get rid of the chins, she never called Susan or talked to her about taking them (although Susan ended up with all of them anyway).

Wow it sounds like that lady needs to get some help....what a story. I'm glad you guys were able to save these poor chins. Congrats on the babies, I'm happy for you that they're girls!
