Hello.
I have had my chinchilla for about a month now and he has been doing great. He is the only animal we have ever had and we do not have any other animals in our home. I also clean his cage once a week (he poops A TON) and he takes baths every 3 days.

I noticed while he was laying on his side that one of his legs has a raw spot. It looks like really dry skin and that he has been scratching it. It is not bleeding, but very red and has no hair.

I called the vet and scheduled an appointment--but I want to get any opinions on what it could be? I read that maybe it is stress--but he seems to be doing okay adjusting.

Thank you

If it's red and scaly, there's a chance it's fungus. Is it a front or back leg? Generally, but not always, fungus starts around the eyes, mouth, nose, and rectum. It likes to be where there is moisture. It can start in other areas, but you see it more frequently in those mentioned above.
