QC or FN cage?

I think both cages are great for chinchillas. I personally have a QC because of portability. I had my chin in college, then moved back home, then moved to another state due to work. The cage collapses flat, making it easier to transport and that was one of the deciding factors for me.

On another note: QC also makes travel cages that also collapse/fold down. I think it's always important to have a backup cage in case of emergencies.

If you think you may get another chin, the FN may be a better choice since you have separate it into two cages.

Some petstores do have the FN142 already set-up in their store. While, they may not have the cheapest price on the FN, at least you can go there and see if you like the space, the sturdiness, how it looks, etc.

Thanks Sesame, those are all good points, and I didn't realize that about the QC.

Another question to the FN fans: I am planning on getting my girl a friend once I upgrade the cage. Assuming they get along fine as cage mates, I want to know if I were to go with the FN, would I leave the middle divider out, or are there advantages to keeping the divider, with cut-out, in? Does it cut back on the mess at all, or make it easier to organize?

Keeping the middle floor in or out is up to you. I have 2 cages without the middle floor, one with. It can be good for safety, since it breaks up the cage and allows a large surface area to catch a chin that could miss a ledge. It also provides more floor area so you can have more hidey houses, potty pans, etc.

Without the middle pan gives you more room to provide more ledges and more areas to jump about. For safety issues, I stretched a large hammock across the middle of the cage.

IMO it's a good idea to leave the middle floor in if you have more than one chin in the cage, since if they start fighting, it takes minimal effort to cover up the hole so you can separate the cage into 2 parts quickly.

These two reasons along with the double doors that open wide as well as easily removable to screw in ledges and cleaning the cage were my deciding factors in purchasing the FN142 two months ago.

Thanks for asking this question as it was one of mine also and the other info became over whelming. We will be getting Edgar a FN cage in the next few months as I think that is the right one for us too.

I got mine at the PetSmart in Rohnert Park and they price-matched for me (I guess not every store does). Plus one of the members on here works there. Good luck Jess!
