Pooping on Hay!

Quick Question:

I put hay in the hay ball thing and he just has it everywhere 2 seconds later--then he poops on it or pees on it. He has chosen where his food bowl is to do his business. Any suggestions?

You can't really avoid them peeing and pooping in their bowls. About the only way is to put up a hanging feeder. They can't get into it to use it as a toilet.

Is the hay ball a metal one? If it is, most people don't recommend them as they can be dangerous for a chin. You may want to look, again, into a hay feeder that hangs on the side of the cage.

I put my feed bowl in the corner under a low shelf, they have to squat over it if they want to pee so they don't really make the effort. One likes to sit on the shelf and stretch down to reach the pellets too, super cute.

We bought Vincenza a little hay manger that she should, theoretically, be able to get to. What does she do? She stands on the top of it and puts her little head in from the top.

And the poops get in!
