I was using Mazuri, which was just fine, but Oxbow is both cheaper and easier to get for me. I already buy Oxbow feed for our guinea pigs and bunnies, and our pet food store has these cool 'buy six bags, get one free' cards for Oxbow foods.

Also, I'd heard Oxbow can help chins gain a little weight, and Zumi had always seemed a little on the small side to me so I figured it was worth a shot. She's filled out a little more (but not too much!), and I'm thinking now that it's simply because she likes Oxbow better. Hehe, not surprising that she'd gain weight if she's eating more ;)

I used Mazuri for awhile with no problems, but I wanted Maddie to get some more weight on her so I switched to PANR and she did gain some weight. PANR is also cheaper.

hkkjstwcl - I don't know how close you are to the Tyson's Corner area but there is a feed store called Booth Feeds that sells both Mazuri and PANR for good prices. I don't think they sell Oxbow http://boothfeeds.com

I am thinking of switching from Mazuri to Oxbow, but was wondering since I have probably 20 pounds of Mazuri left would it be ok to mix the Mazuri with the Oxbow until it's gone? Or should I just use the Mazuri until enough of it is left to mix the Oxbow for a week or two? I haven't really noticed any problems with the Mazuri but my chin does occassionally get soft poos so I'm thinking that may be the issue.

There's no need to waste what you still have. I would just mix it up and use it until it's gone.

You should mix it, so as not to shock their fragile systems - start with 20% new, 80% Mazuri, and increase the new over a couple weeks.
[Although when I switched, they 'dumped' all the Mazuri, and went straight for the new!!] They had no problems, though!

Have you ever bought animals from a real rancher? They don't give you food to mix it up and do a special, careful, ever so slow switch. Unless you feed what they feed already, it's cold turkey.

And actually it's
1/4 new to 3/4 old
1/2 new to 1/2 old
3/4 new to 1/4 old
then switch

When I switched the entire herd from that horrid PenPals to Nutrena, I didn't do any kind of switch. I had animals dying. They went cold turkey to the Nutrena and took off running.

All 4 of mine do great with Mazuri. There is one place in Anchorage that sells it, and zero places that sell Oxbow, so its a pretty easy choice for me ;)
