So ive recently realized that I am pregnant. yay :) but as of right now I have the most terrible toothache. i mean bad. teh whole left side of my face kills. I know whats causing it but does any of the mothers out there know of anything that I can do to help? this is killing me. ive been trying hot packs, tried tylenol, and anbesol. as soon as i used the anbesol it helped but made me so sick to my stomach that I had to vomit :/. hot packs seem to be making it worse. cold water will definately make it worse seeing as its a cavity. does anyone know of anything else i could try?

Really the only relief will come from getting rid of the abcess, can you feel a soft squishy part of your gums that feels like it is holding puss? If you can try popping it like a pimple. I have lanced one before when I saw a white bit of puss bulging under my gums. Gross I know, but that is what is causing your pain. You need to get a safe antibiotic. It is not good for the baby to possibly have infection in your blood, I don't remember what meds are safe to take while pregnant. Congratulations, btw!

I'm not a mom, but I freakin' hate the dentist. At the pharmacy, ask for a vial of Clove Oil. You might also find it in the baking section of a large grocery store. A dab of that on a cotton swab smeared on the cavity can help the pain until you can get to the dentist. It does have a strong flavor/aroma though, so I don't know what it'll do to your nausea, but if the anbesol is too much, it's the next most effective topical pain reliever I know of.

nope no infection. its my wisdom tooth trying to come through more but theres not enough room so its pushing the other teeth. its the 4th or 5th tooth from the wisdom tooth that hurts. its a cavity. ive been waiting on my insurance company to approve or getting teeth pulled but its been since feb when i went to the dentist and got xrays. its kind of going away as long as i sit up but as soon as i lay down it starts hurting again. ive had this for almost 3 hours now and its almost 5 am :(

Oh, I feel for you. Well get into the dentist today. A good medical biller should get you an answer very soon, like maybe today. They may get through hoops by billing as an emergency. Well take a bunch of pillows and doze off propped up against the couch arm.

You need to get that taken care of. The last thing you'd want is it to become infected, and then risk your health. Oral health is very important! If your insurance hasn't come threw yet, maybe see if you can find a dentist that will accept a payment plan? I do feel for you, been there done that one! Ouch!

I agree about the clove oil. it is a little strong so maybe a little ginger ale nearby.

Clove Oil is actually one of the ingredients in dental products. Hopefully you will get to go to the dentist quickly. In the meantime, I am thinking you can really only take Tylenol. Personally I prefer motrin as it not only helps with the pain but also the inflammation.

The local anethetic should be safe for pregnancy and you truly dont feel anything except the pressure. I had to have 2 teeth pulled recently due to them cracking and then get a bridge and the one thing that helped was to have my ipod on! that way i didnt hear much. ;)

If a cavity gets too large, or too deep or too close to the nerve of the tooth, it becomes necessary to get a root canal. If you have that much pain, it makes me wonder how close the cavity has come to the nerve of the tooth. If pain medicine isn't helping, I would definitely get into the dentist asap, and most dentists will work with you on the billing and insurance, especially if it is an emergency.

i worded that wrong lol I have insurance. It is active. i already have 9 teeth that is to be removed and 8 out of 9 was approved. the last tooth is still waiting to be approved for removal but i was going to be put under to get them removed. but i dont think i can now which really sucks because im terrified of needles especially if they are coming towards my mouth! but i have clove oil. luckly the pain is gone for now. but if i get it again ill try it.

If the Dentist knows you are pregnant they can work around that. Some teeth can be pulled without going under. If not the Dr will work with you for the situation

I wonder how safe laughing gas is? I had a great fear of needles until I got the dreaded "C", now they aren't as bad, but I still get extreme anxiety. I was told that the laughing gas would help with anxiety by a technician treating me. Just don't know if it's safe for pregnant women?

i believe it is unsafe in the first trimester but honestly if it is unsafe then i would really question it during any part of pregnancy.

i would put on my headphones, close my eyes and open my mouth! you wont really see or feel anything.

nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is not safe during the 1st trimester of pregnancy and you should not be anywhere near it. But I do believe it is ok after the 1st. Otherwise, nitrous is ok to use and is only effective while you are breathing it in. Once you take the mask off, you are completely ok. But if you are like my husband, some can be sensitive to the nitrous and it can make you feel nauseaus. But when I was working in a dental office and was preggo, I chose not to be anywhere near it for my entire pregnancy, just to be on the safe side.

Ive had an infection before so at least i know what to look for with that. I didnt get the chance to call today but first thing tomorrow before work i am going to call. everything has been making my stomach turn. especially the smell of coffee! usually i love it but now its just gross. im hoping this passes soon lol. altho last night when i got sick it made my toothache go away for a few minutes. weird. I have clove oil that I will try.

a good short (very short!) term remedy, if the tooth is on the bottom jaw and has an open cavity (actual parts of tooth missing), is to crumble up an extra strength tylenol and pack it in the area. only do this once or twice until you can get to the dentist, because the tylenol will wreck your gums with continued use.

i've had two teeth pulled in the past couple years and the dentist had to freeze me twice each time. seems my body/gums just don't take to the fun numb, lol, too well. each tooth was a separate visit, and when they told me that the one tooth could puncture my sinus cavity as they were pulling it out i was pretty darn scared! but all went well and now i just have a couple little spaces on one side of my mouth where i stick my tongue in when i'm thinking or concentrating really hard, lol! i didn't want the gaps, but pulling was WAY cheaper than fixing!

if you're able to get all 9 teeth done on separate visits (even a couple teeth each visit), then being put under shouldn't be necessary. just get them to freeze ya darn good, lol.

When I went to get some cavities worked on a few weeks ago, they used novacaine. I was around 28weeks pregnant at the time.

I used the clove oil last night and it worked great! the taste definitely was not too good and it made my stomach turn once but i kept everything down lol. Didnt take away the headache that i kept getting whenever i laid down but that was solved by using another pillow :)
