Well...according to this old post her mom has 40 chins (minus 1 for poor Romeo). :cry3: So, if I did my math correctly that would mean mom still has 15.

http://www.chins-n-hedgies.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15918&page=4

Sorry, I guess I didn't calculate it right, but I have 17 chins with me, where there is 2 newborn babies, so actually 15, and I have two chins that are 4 and 6 months old, and the rest is all adults, so yes, it actually lasts me about 2 months not 3, I just said betwen 2 and 3 because it can last me 2 months and 1 week, and it's true, it depends on the feed, because I find my chins seem to like more the Oxbow than the Riedstra, but my mom, with 40 chins, it lasts her one bag of 50 pounds of the Riedstra only one month

My mom actually had 36 with her, Romeo was gone :(, and Jade and Pearl were adopted by you, and I said 40 chins, because I think that's what she had told me, but we counted them right and they were 36 chins as of yesterday, and we actually took 25 chins, not 24, because there was Indigo's baby with her in the same hole, I just realized that now.

So your mom still has 11 chinchillas? So much for leaving her with maybe one or two...I agree with Dawn that she really shouldn't have any since she's willing to let them die slow, painful deaths.

I'm glad you were able to help Kiki, I imagine getting that many away from a hoarding situation voluntarily was hard enough. Hopefully sometime in the near future the entire situation can be rectified with the surrender of the rest of the chinchillas.

Hi

No, I just wrote in my ad that the 6 rescues are gone, plus Daisy, so that leaves her to 4 chins that she is keeping as pets, and those chins are not only for her, they are going to be pets of the family of 5 members, and each of them has a favourite one.

And no, Kiki did not take the chins away from a hoarding situation, that is a false statement, Kiki helped my mom to have a smaller load of chins on her care, to make things better for her since my sisters were not helping her with the chins and she was left alone taking care of all the chins.

My mom always took good care of the chins, she even got one she better and gave her all the proper medicine and brought to the vet, and she spent about 3 weeks to get him better and she made it, she only made the mistake with Romeo, that's it, she always took good care of them and made sure that they had everything, water, food everyday, clean cages, exercise etc. and she would always go to check upon them everyday, the only thing that it was becoming hard on her to watch so many, that it was hard sometimes to notice if they were ill or something, but no, she had not had many ill chins with her, only two, which she got one better already.

And please, stop making false statements here, I have explained myself, many times, and I don't have to repeat myself.

I let them know that if I have to drive again at the end of the summer I will!!!
I am sooooooo tired....and my husband's truck got kind of beat up because of all the cages and runs in the back of the truck, and the carriers up against the dash, so it got scratched too...hoping he doesn't notice....

How many do you have now Kathiva? I am just wondering if you now will have too many to look after considering Jade and Pearl were with you and we saw how they looked. You said that your parents only had them for a few days before Jennifer picked them up.

I offered you my help but since you didn't seem to want it, I'm hoping all the chins will at least be in a good place.

No, is not that I didn't want your help, is just that my dad was going to be able to travel to toronto area next week, so since we were able to find a place for the rescues sooner, we did that, or else, I would have brought a female rescues to you, thanks for offer it anyways.

I'd like to know how many you have at home too. You stated that you are unemployed. So, how are you going to afford to pay for the food, dust, hay and possible vet bills should they arise? Especially since you mentioned that you can't afford any of Jade's future foot injury vet bills...should it arise.

How is their being with you going to make life better for these chins? If Romeo were with you, would you have been able to afford the vet bill for him? What if one of the other chins gets sick? Or one of the chins has a complication during childbirth?

It really worries me that although these chins have been removed from your parents' home, that the situation will not be much different.

:(

Luckily I have a few teacher friends here who are willing to help now that school is out and they are at home all day. They are willing to foster some, and I am scrambling now for cages.
I am doing everything I can at this end.....:)

I hope that banging the head against the wall wasn't aimed towards me as well, I am doing everything I can......feeling very frustrated...

I know it is your thread Kiki but I'm super positive the "banging head" is not aimed towards you.

I told you that I was not going to pay for anymore vet bills because I have paid already $255 to help you out, and you ended up not having to pay anything from the vet bills, except for your critical care that you said you bought, so that's why I told you that, at the moment I cannot afford anymore vet bills, but of course in the future I will have to do something if someone gets ill, that is my responsibility, and I am unemployed at the moment, but my dad is in charge to go buy food, hay, dust, pellets, etc for the chins to Flowertown, he drives every month there, so he spends 8 hours driving, plus the gas, about $100, plus the food, so he does take care of them, and he sends it to me when I get to see him every month, and he makes sure I have everything for the chins, it was my mom's decision not to bring Romeo to the vet, not my dad's, not mine, so please stop with the false assumptions.

I also asked you for an update on Jade, and you didn't reply, I can tell that you just got upset here because I told you that, and instead of replying me, you are writing this sort of rude comment to me, I don't really appreciate that after all the effort I did to be able to send you back the funds to cover for the vet bills for Jade, I could have said no, forget it, it's your now, but I didn't do that, because I did care about her. I don't know if she would need any other vet consultation or something, that's why I told you that I couldn't do it anymore, but I also asked you how she was doing, to see what was going on,

My chins are not going to be in a bad situation anymore, the chins were brought here temporarily to rehome them in town, and the situation will of course change, since steps have been taken to get things done, so please stop that.

It isn't a rude comment. I am thinking about the well being of these chins. If you remember, the girls were not in the best of condition when I got them and THAT is my concern.

If YOU are the breeder than it should be YOUR responsibility to buy the food and supplies...not your dads. I am sorry but that is being irresponsible. You are an adult and need to take responsibility for your animals.

As for Jade's vet bill...that was your responsibility.

You know why my dad does it? because he is my dad, and he cares about helping me out, because he cares about his family and for him, and for me, family is everything, and is first before everything, and he lives closer to Flowertown than me, that is his decision to help me out, I have bought other supplies on my own, but he decided to help me out, and that is not your business on how I buy my things, and that does not mean that I am not being responsible because I am not doing it on my own, you don't have the right to call me like that, I don't call you things because I thought this of you and that, I could make all kinds of things up of anyone if I wanted to and call them names or something, but I am not like that, I am done here with you. Please don't talk to me anymore.

I agree if you cannot afford the foods and supplies you should not have chinchillas. I understand asking for help once in a while from parents we have all been there but you really should consider getting rid of your chinchillas...all of your chinchillas until your life is more stable.

Those chinchillas looked like rescues when she posted pictures..not just a few days of no care they looks like weeks of poor care and I have seen MANY injuries that was not a fresh and new injury it looked to be at least a week old when the disaster started.

There is no shame in admitting right now isn't the time for chinchillas life is tricky and sometimes it really just isn't the time. If you are in over your head (which IMPO you are) get help this economy is not great for breeding chinchillas and if that is your sole income it won't work

Kiki you did the right thing I know this is your thread and I hold nothing against you...you are being responsible and helpful. It is the person who started the situation we are all flustered with

So these chins are going to be the much loved pets and taken care of by the same people who stopped helping with the care of them before?
