No its not rotund - its like I can feel bulges that would be his organs - I think thats what it is because hes lost some weight and he is quite small anyways...He isnt doing well today...I haven't seen fresh poos since yesterday am despite massaging and getting food in...why do these things always happen at night and on Sunday???? :( Im going after smithecone and starting warm compresses and see if that helps...I think he feels bad because he hasn't poo'd...

When I was treating Sparky for stasis, he would often have those bulges that felt like knots. I just kept working them out with warm compresses, massages, simethicone (not only at meals but between as well), and motility drugs.

You need to keep up the treatment and be consistent.

Ive tried all day. He wont swallow, he wont move his legs and he wont hold his head up. He lays in any position I put him in without even moving his head. I cant get anything in him. Basically he's just breathing now. I think he's given up and its just a matter of time. Ive been crying all day. I tried not to get my hopes up but he really was doing better and eating good on Friday. such a rollercoaster...i thought we had turned a corner.

Sending a warm hug with arms wrapped around you. I'm very sorry to hear the sweet baby passed. The little picture was so precious. Glad you have that and can hold that dear to you.

Thank you everyone. I am about to take his little body over to the lab for a necropsy. They don't sound like they do very many (if any) on chinchillas as the lady on the phone had to ask if they did chinchillas. She said it would be $35 which I found pretty reasonable. I am hoping they can find out what went wrong. I wish I had preserved Tato's body for compairison, but I just thought it was a fluke accident :(

I am so extremely sorry for your loss. I almost teared up... This stinks! I hope that you are doing ok.

It's Pnemonia...

The lab came back today saying Pnemonia was the cause of Poe's death. I brought the other two cagemates to the vet first thing this morning because one (paddington) was not really acting like himself but not like Poe was. Vet called me today and said Paddington has pnemonia too and is calling his prognosis "guarded" (50-75% chance of recovery) and that Titus has a middle ear infection and doesn't sound pneumatic but sometimes it starts there and then moves into the lungs, but gave his prognosis a "fair" rating (I think means better than 75%)...which sounds promising. We have been discussing at length about the safety of the other animals and I have been super careful about washing hands and cross contamination. I am just really scared about them and the other animals. Thank goodness the cage these boys were in was melamine and the walls are solid but that isn't stopping my worry:wacko:

I think they are going to be OK, It makes all the difference when you have a good vet, correct diagnosis and a owner who can and will make them their #1 priority.
