Everyone meet _______________. As you can see, he has no name. :( His previous owner just called him chinchilla. He came to me locally from a girl who's boyfriend left him there 3 months ago when they broke up. He's a sweet boy, though a bit skittish (understandably so). He was kept in his cage, in a walk in closet. Due to him using the vanilla scented bath sand, he was the greasiest chin I have ever laid eyes on. After a good bath and a quick comb he looks like a different chinnie. I haven't given him a full groom yet. It will probably be in about a week. I want to get more comfortable first. He also had never had hay, just pellets, so I took him in to the vet for a teeth checkup. Luckily his teeth look good. Now to get him to actually munch on that hay!

So everyone meet ______________!

He loves his make shift litter box. :) I think he has always been on wire, so the bedding must feel good on his toesies.

This is his house. Let me know what you think. The cage came with him, but had nothing in it except a food dish.

Also, help me name this little guy! For some reason I keep thinking Dexter, but I think that's because I have been into the show lately. I wonder if naming him Dexter would be a bad omen? lol

One more picture I just realized I missed.

In all the pictures he has this spot on his nose that almost looks brown. I inspected him in some really bright light, and there is no brown so I am not sure where that is coming from in the pictures. Maybe it's just still greasy. He seems like he didn't get his face as well as the rest of his body.

Put some corn starch in his dust...trust me on that. :D

Poor little guy. They don't like being dirty, that isn't fair. Maybe he had some diarrhea and got it on his nose at some point?

I don't like that cage, it's okay, but when a chin gets going in a cage with shelves that aren't really well connected it makes a lot of noise. He'll be alright in it...I just wish that the shelves were connected better to prevent possible problems. Most of my customers, who have that cage, end up taking out of the shelves and replacing them with something more sturdy. I had to make a cage for someone a month back because her chin broke the bars on that cage.

Anyway...I always pick something and go on and on. :p

I'm glad you have the chin, you can start spoiling him and keeping him dusted. He'll be grateful for that!

I'm not a huge fan of the cage either, especially the shelves. I have another one in the shed, I just haven't put it together yet. This one seems to be doing ok so far.

I will try the corn starch trick. I just dusted him so I won't do it until tomorrow, but I will have to take more pictures then to see the difference.

Speaking of pictures, I just took more after his second bath. Uploading them now.

Cutest picture ever! He wasn't actually chewing the bar, just sticking his nose through trying to get the camera.

You can always zip tie the shelves to the cage to make it sturdier. And you can remove the bottom grate so he can sit in the litter.

He is a cutie. Call him Puritan, like the name on his litter box. ;)

I was already thinking of removing the grate. I have to make sure he isn't a carefresh eater first. He actually doesn't seem to mind the grate. It's small enough to where it doesn't pose any harm to his feet. When he isn't in the litter box he is sitting/sleeping on the grate. He has fleece items in there, but he isn't used to them yet. He has only been in his tube once that I have seen.

Aw, he's definitely a cutie with that face. I love the scritches pic! :D As far as names, anything is better than "chinchilla" or _______________! :p

Ok, the cardboard box has been taken out and he now as a real litterbox in there (baking pan). I am also still leaning towards Dexter for a name. He just looks like a Dexter. :p

(underscore) is definitely a cutie. Dexter. Go for it. If you keep thinking it, Dexter must be his name. ^_^ you obviously have better chin naming skills then I do.

My fav pic is his tube pic. I'd like to get me a tube, someday.

So cute!
Just so you know, I have that cage too and my chin broke one of the bars off! Make sure you keep an eye on it.

What's that other thing that's hanging on the left side of the pictures? I think Dexter fits him :]
