Thank you for sharing that story and you are definitely an Angel to dedicate your life to these wonderful creatures. I would never want to breed but accidentally did about 5 years ago when I got my chins from a pet store and they were being sold as 2 boys  I wish someone was videotaping my reaction to one of them giving birth as well, I freaked out when I couldn't find Whiskers and saw Chilly in the tube with a tail by her head and what was the afterbirth by her mouth :vomit: I thought she killed Whiskers because of the blood & tail by her mouth, but then she moved and a baby popped out, oh gosh, I never ever want to go through that again! I know not every story is like that but sometimes all of us pet owners need to hear the good with the bad as well.

I love how wavy their fur is right when they're born, you need to take some updated ones with the mom. :)) Oh and I love the names of your chinnies as well!

I took a TON of pictures for you all.

The mama, Sibley, is 812 grams. I thought she didn't weigh THAT much. Wow, I should start weighing everyone more. So, she was probably well over 1000 grams before the babies were born. So THAT'S why she had larger babies, maybe...she's a big girl herself? I know she ate like a pig the last month or two. :D

So, the babies were wiggling all over the place, they wouldn't hold still for photos. Mama was easy, she just needed a bribe to hold still. She looks amazingly tidy for just having had babies, she hasn't dust bathed since the birth.

Two of just mama. 16 hours ago or so her paws were bloody and her chin was slimy wet. No dust bath and her fur is still bright weight the day after? Chins are amazing...

Sandi...that is so scary! I've been frightened by the afterbirth a few times because it will be the first thing I see in the cage. Your poor heart...it must have been in your throat. And, THEN a baby popped out. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! you aren't the only one. I have people call me all the time confused about what is going on..."I thought they were both boys!!!"

Yep, Susan, you could say I was scared straight, LOL! The worst part about that was that Whiskers had to be permanently separated from mom and her baby girl :( I even got him neutered but Chilly tried 2 attack him twice, once before and after the neutering.

The babies are adorable, especially that kissing pic and momma looks pretty good to, I love standards, they have a very special place in my heart. What are you thinking about as far as names for these babies?

Hmmmmm...names...I have no idea. I've been really wanting to name a chin Agnes, the beige would be a good Agnes. I was calling the other one Lillihopper, but that will probably change. Anyone has any ideas and I will happily name them whatever you want (within reason...LOL) I've named so many chins that if someone else can come up with something, I'm all for using that name.

I actually used my mouth to gently suck out the gunk in the nose as I was driving and rubbing the kit's chest. I would give ANYTHING to have had a video of that because it was so weird that I did that.

I picture Susan driving down a 4 lane road, going just a little slower and weaving slightly because of everything going on. Because of that, all the traffic passes her and looks to see who's this drunk driving this car?? Instead they see the local chinchilla lady eating a baby chin :cry3:

That's about right!!! You are so funny. Again, I wish I had video of that...I'd love to see the expression on my face as I did that.

Here's the chin that I did that to all those years ago, it doesn't appear to have traumatized him or otherwise adversely affected him. His name is Fletch...I snapped a picture of him a couple seconds ago because I am crazy with the pictures lately!

Do you have an Audrey already?

I don't have an Audrey here, but I would have to see if I have ever named a chin that before. I checked...can you believe that I have never had an Audrey before.

So, there we have it Audrey and Agnes. They sound like little old lady sisters...awww...perfect.

You know...you're amazing and what an amazing story. My heart started racing on the 1st post and by time I got to the end of the entire thread it is finally beating normal. Audrey and Agnes...you're right, does sound like the names of 2 elderly aunts you go to visit for their 100th birthday...love it. And the babies are adorable.
Do you know if they're girls yet or does it take some time before you can tell the difference? Maybe I somehow missed that in the thread. (you refer to them as "the babies" so...)

"Chinchilla lady eating a baby chin" (only AddictedToChins would think of that)

They're definitely girls. :) It is possible to tell right at birth about 99% of the time. I'm not amazing, the chinchillas are just trying to make my heart stop. :D Audrey and Agnes are all over the place...partners in crime. They're not even two days old and they are already into everything. Mom and grandma both seem to be really on edge! Right about now the chins are much better coordinated and they start becoming daredevils, in three weeks they will be just as skilled at evil as adults. I'll have to take some pictures then... :D

they are adorable, so is mama! i love the names. my grandmothers name was audrey and her nickname was auggie! and my aunt was agnes and her nickname was aggie!
