Brought home my two new guys last night, they're settling in well!

They are Sheidow, 5 who is Fawn colored. And Gemma, 6, who is Mosaic! Both male, they have lived together for over 3 years and get along great.

Took'em out for playtime last evening and they loved it! Sheidow is a little more timid and shy, took some time to warm up to us enough to come eat some raisin pieces. Gemma is the opposite! Very outgoing, he's not timid with me at all! And so snuggly and friendly :)

This is my first time owning Chinchillas! I've done a lot of research and I feel prepared but a lot of people recommended joining a forum! So i just wanted to make a post introducing us with some pics (if i can figure that part out) to say Hello!

My first question, if anyone would be so kind, is does anyone know of a relatively cheap online store for toys and cage accessories? The cage they came with is quite outdated and she had them using plastic ledges, which I'd like to replace. They also don't have a hay rack/bin whatever or a little house!
Thanks in advance :)

Congrats on the new chins! I'm glad you're planning on updating their cage. Seeing all of the plastic they've eaten while with their previous owner can't be good news.

The cheapest shelves available would be to make them yourself. You can get all of the supplies at a Home Depot, Lowes, etc. There's a thread on how to make them here. You don't even need a drill if you don't have one. While at a home improvement store, you can pick up a terra cotta pot (unglazed) for an inexpensive hay holder.

For other supplies, this list has links to various shops run by members of these forums. There's also the rotating banner up top under the Chins n Hedgies sign.

Edit: Wanted to add, you should get rid of that wheel asap. Chins (most rodents if not all, actually) can easily break their toes on those mesh type wheels. If it has a bar sticking through the middle for support, they're also bad for their backs.

I agree, DIY wood shelves are the cheapest way to go! I've used the terra cotta pots before for hay, petsmart has wood hay holders as well. I honestly put their hay on the floor because that's where it ends up anyways. Luckily they don't pee on their hay. You can buy a lot of toys from petsmart, check out the bird section. Also, I like to buy most of my toys from AZchins (http://www.azchins.com/)... Susanne is great and always ships everything fast! You can even order pellets and dust from her!

Also, what kind of pellets are you feeding them?
