Hey guys,
So luna is my headgehog and my boyfriend and i are getting worried because our apartment is getting colder and its just way to cold for luna!! She lives in a metal base wire sides cage and has a tissue box as her little home! She loves that thing!

Anyways i need to get something to keep her home asap like this weekend if possible! Im not sure what to do.... SHould i buy llike a reptile heating lamp? Ive been researching these things called snugglesafe discs. They seem pretty cool and safe but i just dont know what to do....

We keep our place colder than normal room temperature, i usually always have a sweater or a blanket one, sadly there isnt a way to change it atleast not for good for luna. So please give me your advice on the best way to keep her warm.

I have a ceramic heat lamp for my guy and i line his cage with fleece. He also has a fleece hedgehog bag that he likes to sleep in. My heat lamp is 60 watts but I would like one that is a little stronger because I worry about what will happen when it gets colder. The ceramic ones are nice because there's no light from them. I think those snuggle disks seem a bit hokey to me. There are under tank heaters you could also look into. You'd need one that can be controlled as far as heat levels. Most people just use the ceramic lamps, though. I also put a big fleece blanket over his cage to hold the heat in sometimes but I have to be careful to not let it touch his lamp.

Ceramic heat emitters are great for cage heating but they do have to be used with precautions as they get very hot. A thermostat to control the heat output is the most important part of the setup to ensure it doesn't get too hot.

What you will need is a Heat Emitter safe fixture. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753959 The 10" size is the best as it spreads the heat out more. Do not use anything other than one that says Emitter safe which the one in the link does.

You will need a Thermostat. The thermostat has a probe that goes down in the cage to sense the temperature and it will turn the emitter off and on as needed. Here is an example but there are numerous types. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752604

Finally, you will need a heat emitter. It depends on the size of the cage what size you will need. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3876121 They also can be white in colour.

What type of cage do you have? It is best if you wire the fixture directly to the top of the cage so it can't be knocked off. Also, ensure that no curtains or anything can blow near the emitter. An emitter setup is perfectly safe, not much different than a light bulb except that it gets really hot.
