Sorry, that is just gross you don't think water needs to be changed daily Shouts.
It doesn't. It would be more realistic if it read something closer to "provide fresh water regularly and clean the bottle" then recommend it be done at every cage cleaning.

Changing the water does nothing if you don't clean the container. :))

I like the site so far, I would recommend you providing a bit more detail in the topics, and it would be nice if you'd provide a link back to the sites that gave you the info. It would also help your site rank.

So you are saying you don't need to change the water daily? How long do you leave it in the bottle before changing? No that anything anyone says will change my mind, mine get fresh water daily.

I keep a jug of filtered water in my fridge and I change my boys water usually every other day or sometimes every third day. when i do that i wipe down the inside of the cap and flush the bottle. But i agree about the bottles, you can change the water every day but if the bottle is dirty it is a waste.
Some of the bottles I have received with chins i rescued had mold floating on the inside.
This weekend I will be taking all apart and running them thru the diswasher.
I am not sure how often this should be done. I know I remember Peggy saying she does two full loads of bottles.........but I cant remember how often she does it!

I can see every other day or so if you have a ton of chins, under 10 then why not change every day, it does not take that long.

Once a week, and they get sterilized each time. :)

When I had a lot less chins, my bottles got washed every single day. Up until I hit about 50 or so. After that, it just wasn't possible for me to do that, and keep up a 40 hour a week job, plus everything else. Now between the various cages I do around 180 bottles once a week.

i have 9 chins on 2 levels of my house and cleaning and feeding alone take me 1 hour per night without playtime. i have a full time job, 9 year old son, 8 & 7 year old step sons so the 10 minutes i save each night filling water bottles allows an extra playtime for someone.
i just never felt fresh cold filtered water in a clean bottle needed to be changed everyday. but that is just me.

So you are saying you don't need to change the water daily?
Correct. And I'll say it again just in case. :)) I drink out of a water glass more than one day in a row, even drink the same water if there's some left... no reason they can't either.

How long do you leave it in the bottle before changing?
I rotate my jugs through the dishwasher when they are empty, roughly once every 7-10 days. I flush my lines every six months or so.

No that anything anyone says will change my mind, mine get fresh water daily.
I have no intention of changing your mind. I'm just stating that we don't need to make new owners paranoid about providing them "fresh" water. If they use tap it is best to let it sit and let the chlorine evaporate anyhow.

Peg, do you have an industrial dishwasher?

Nope, but I wish I did. I did a buttload of shopping to find one that had a sterilize/sanitize function on it that I could afford. The one I got has an internal heater, thankfully, because my hot water wouldn't last through one cycle. It warms the water to (if I remember correctly, can't find my book!) 165 degrees. It takes a lot longer to do the load of bottles because of it, but when they come out, those suckers are so hot I need a pot holder to touch one. Generally I pop the door, let the steam/heat escape, and then let them cool down for 20 minutes or so before I pull them out.

Which topics do you think need more detail? The illness section is a general guideline- it isn't meant to be full of every detail about every disease.

I got the information from what I have learned by reading CnH over the years. All of the articles were typed from what I know and have learned from CnH and others through out the years, I didn't use any references. I did use CnH on a few of the health topics. I have a link going back to CnH in the information site directory. Oh, I did use one site as a guideline for the history page.

As for the water, I don't see saying that giving chins fresh water daily as making a new owner paranoid. It is better changing it daily, than letting it sit stagnant..it doesn't take much effort, and I don't see it as a huge deal. I suppose every other day is okay. I would reword it to changing the water regularly, but who's to say what regularly is..some lazy people may see that as every 4 days or so. I will add information about washing the bottles, though.

Here's a picture of Tubby, who chewed his tail fur.
Here are some oral xrays of Winnie. These oral xrays show nothing wrong with Winnie & I had them done for precautionary measures.
One time, Tubby hurt his nose. I'm not sure how he got his nose hurt.
I documented everything when Winnie was suffering from GI stasis/bloat.
Finally, some pictures of fur ring.
If you want to use these pictures, right click on the pictures & choose "open link in new tab" or "open link in new window" or "view image."

It'd be nice if you gave a link back to the sites that gave you the pictures then. :))

All the pictures (that weren't taken by myself) came from members who sent me pics and gave me permission to use, and I credited them under the picture. If they asked me to link back to their website for using their pictures, I would have, but no one gave me a website to link back to under the pictures. Everyone that sent me links went under the directory, some of those people are also people that sent me pictures. If you sent me a picture and want your website linked under it, then please let me know.

Tara, are you wanting your website under the pictures of the fungus you sent me, or something?
