I need some advice. I once again have tried to introduce Paco to a new dry cat food. In the past this has failed as he is a very picky eater. I have not found anything he will eat besides Solid Gold Cat food and certain types of moist food. After a couple days with the new food, I noticed that the amount of the SG he was eating, was down to about a quarter of what he normally eats. So I took the new food out, but he will not go back to eating the same amount he did before the new food. I have even gone out to try other foods to get him to eat. No luck. He is still drinking the same, and eating the half of tablespoon of moist that I put in, but I do not want him to have moist all the time, I want him to stay on the SG. He is still using his wheel, but is it not as messy as it used to be, so every other night I have been giving him a foot bath to ensure that he is pooping still. His weight as been between 469-457, and we have been weighing him morning and night. His cage is between 78.3-78.7 F for temp. Light is on from 7 am until we take him out around 6:30 and he is back in his cage between 8:30-9 pm. The temp and the light routine have been the same since we first got him almost a year ago...I am just at a loss as what I should do...I also thought it was due to the SG as we freeze it, so I went out and got a new bag...but found that the kibble is a different color and he wont even touch that.

Thank You for all your help.

I feed my little girl Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul. Maybe you could try that?

I've had a rough time with Cooper and his eating habits as well. I offered him some canned food and he gobbled that right up. He then decided he was going to eat less of the kibble and only wanted the canned food. For him I had to remove the moist food altogether and only give him kibble. In the morning I would count his kibble and if he had eaten nothing, I would give him canned food so that he had something to eat. This eventually worked for us as he started to eat the kibble and I no longer give him canned food.

He too is very resistant to change. He actually has one food that if I put even a couple of pieces in his bowl he will not eat very well that night.

If he continues to eat less and refuses to eat the kibble, you may want to consider a vet visit to have his teeth checked out.

I am glad to hear that I am not the only one with a picky hedgie....I hear about the stories with treats and human food...and here I can barley get him to eat cat food. Things are going a bit better, not back up to his normal amount but slowly better. I have not given him anymore canned cat food, but a couple times a night I will put in moistened dry food...just to help out as well as his regular kibble. I think he is trying to give me grey hair before my time.
