It doesn't happen a lot, but sadly, it does happen. I've held my share of dying kits and it never gets easier.

I'm sorry to hear about the kits. Was she a first time mother? I had a female kill her three kits the first time and the second litter she was just fine.

I also that there is a point where females can feel over bred....obviously there are many who go on to have litters and litters but if they do not want another litter and it is taking too much out of them they will reject them or eat them... We forget animals make choices too

I dont know if you should try mating this female again (if she is indeed the one who is on her third litter) It might be a fluke, but it might not. She might not want anymore kits..

Grab a bunch of mom's pee shavings and rub them all over the kit and the other kit. Then put her back in with mom and stay close by and make sure everything is alright.

Don't do vanilla. That's just another strange smell right now with a wired mom and an injured kit. Make the smell familiar, not new.

Any time I want to foster a kit, they get a good rub in the dirty shavings and in they go.

LOL I was going to say that exact same thing. Also maybe you can keep baby out for a day and along with the shavings put both mom and baby on a fleece blanket and then switch to get the other used to the smell. If your worried about shock for the baby then you can put her in a carrier with a heating pad under half of it to keep her warm. you would have to hand feed for that night tho.
One of the other things i've heard and dont know if it's true but i've heard of people putting a dab of menthylatium under moms nose to throw off the scent. I've never done it but maybe someone else knows on that one.
good luck. How bad are the wounds
