Hey! I recently got what was supposed to be a little brother to the Gus, put them in separate cages until they got used to one another. It's been 8 days and I have been noticing he has been making what I call his "excited" noises and swishing his tail a LOT more than usual, so I googled it and long story short I figured out Esse is a she :( thankfully they haven't been put together but what should I do?!?

Is it costly to get a male fixed, would it change his personality?? I don't want to have chin babies because I wouldn't be prepared but I meant for them to be friends not have to live seperate lives. Just looking for some advice, I really don't want to give her away because she is very sweet and has a cute/weird personality

If you have an experienced vet perform the procedure, a male can be castrated successfully. As with any surgery there are risks, and some chins don't do well with anesthesia. It depends on the chin. Cost depends on your area and your vet. I could get a male castrated here for probably $50.00 to $100.00, so to me that's not a big deal. Other people have paid much more, in the high hundreds. Personality wise? No way to know until after the surgery is done.

I am near Toronto and my vet charges around $400 I believe. I haven't ever neutered a chin so I can't say if it changes their personality. Any surgery is risky so you should look at the pros and cons.

There is no guarantee that even with neutering that the two will bond. You may go through the expense and risk and still end up with two separated chins anyway.

Ditto

I have had several males done by an experienced vet., cost of 270$. Have not regretted being they are partnered with females.

Although, no matter, there are risks like any animal or human going under anesthesia and no guarantee of successful pairing.

I live in a very small town in New Brunswick so I can imagine if it's $400 in Toronto it could only be the upwards of that :( plus I doubt any vet around here has preformed the procedure. this really sucks! I don't want to lose my male chin if I put him under to get castrated, I'm very attached to him.

Thanks for the input
