I have about 100 females with the new pins in their collars and have had no problems with them at all. Once I snap them on I spread the ends with a small screwdriver like I have always done with the old ones. Ryersons got the closest ones they could get without having a new mold made which was very cost prohibitive. They still had to order a million of them if I remember right, which I am sure they will never sell that many of them in my lifetime.

I've only got 6 females using collars at any given time and in the past 6months I've had 4 collars popped off from the new rivet style resulting in one dead female! :-( I can say I'm not a fan. I have not tried spreading the ends with a small screwdriver though so will have to try that!

Cheryl get with me at nationals and I will show you what I do with them. Sometimes I even need a screw driver to get them back off.

I bought a bunch of rivets from ryersons two years ago... Previously I've been using collars and riverts from a retired rancher. Would make sense why I'm not having an issue with the collars I purchased with my rivets.. However during the move I uncollared females
And gave them a break while I reorganized the heard... Used many old collars with the rivets and have had many popping off, and had a female with a collar in her mouth. I havent had any issues with my collars in a long time... I bet I unknowingly mix matched!

Jags... I'll have to give the screwdriver trick a try and see if it makes a difference!

Maybe I'll just buy all new collars? Hmmm...decisions decisions! I don't have many "old collars" probably right around two dozen but I only have about 15-16 old rivets. Wondering if anyone (though it does seem like a no brainer) has searced the world wide web to see if this type of rivet is being manufactured for a different purpose?

Oh yes. Searched, talked to manufacturers locally and overseas... the consensus is that they need a custom form and the form itself is about $4K to make. After that they have to do a minimum run to break even.

Last year we were looking at getting the three prong collars made. Locally they'll do it for about $2 per piece and there are three pieces per collar. Metal is very expensive right now and the local minimum is 600 pieces. Overseas worked out to be cheaper but you have to order 10,000 to make it worthwhile to ship. Of course those collars require three rivets each..... well, you get the idea.

Personally I bought out Ronda's supply. She'd like to offer them on her website as she knows the plastic ones suck. Maybe I'll look into those V shaped ones if I get any in the shipment from her. If they work they would certainly be a lot easier to manufacture.

That would be wonderful! It sounds as if both Megan and I will be looking for the demonstration :)

I will find a Ryerson collar and an old one also to show you the difference and how to make them work.

I talked to Jan today and they have just purchased the die to make the 3 piece collars and will soon be making them available.

Ronda has a bunch made and available on her website, but can't find metal rivets for them. Are the Ryersons going to have metal rivets available?

They already have metal rivets available. They have a 50lb box full, not sure how many millions that is but it is a bunch.
