Thank you guys, I am SO glad she thrived, and I was not expecting a happy ending either. I mean, 8 months of losing, gaining, never getting about 300 and having that dirty critical care chin! She pulled the fur out of her chin and just looked pathetic. She gained the 500+ grams in less than a month. It was amazing, I do wish I would have taken pictures now, but for some reason I really, really was sad about this girl, she just stole your heart, like they all do.

Wow!! You have a beautiful girl!! I was worried as I started reading but I am so glad that everything worked out for you. It is crazy to think that just a switch in food can make such a difference!!!

That's a beautiful chinchilla and a great story. Man, that was a close call for her. Naughty chinnie for scaring her mother like that.

She put me through so much stress, I cried and cried and just had a hard time putting a chin down when I didn't know what the problem was. I asked so many breeders and vets and they all said I should do it. She was just so pathetic though and would cry and cry and cry, no matter what we did. It was terrible. She ate CC so well though, and even our pet sitter loved her even taking her home with her so she could have more feedings. She had to stay in a baby safe cage because she was so small she could get out of a regular one, even at 6 months old. She had so many force feedings but could not gain weight, the vet really thought it was a metabolism or thyroid problem, but nothing showed up in her blood tests.

It was such a close and lucky call, I don't know if I could have even done it but someone said that they never regretting putting an animal down too soon, but most of the time regretted not doing it soon enough. That is so true, in all but this case!
