So, I have another addition to the zoo. I posted on craigslist about getting another american toad (the kind you find outside) and I posted saying if anyone's got one they don't want, I'd take it (I want mine to have a buddy). Anyway, I get contacted by a woman who said her kid had this toad, she thought it was from outside, but it got big and they didn't want it anymore. They were supposed to meet me at my apartment the next day at 5 cause they were driving past the area. Well....on my way home, there was a big crash which closed all lanes of the interstate, so needless to say I didn't make it home by 5.

Come home to find a decent-sized box in front of my door with a note saying "sorry we missed you, here's your new friend." Or something like that.

Ya, um. Not an american toad - it's a pacman frog (I can't think of what the real name for them is - "ornate horned toad" maybe?). And it's BIG! I named him Rex.

And yes, I know he'll eat my tiny other toad so he's housed completely separately. Just for anyone who was curious. I've had pacman frogs before, just never one this large...

Anyway, onto the best part ---> Pics! And just to show you the size, that is a salad plate he is sitting on....

Wow... I've never seen one that big. Someday will have one, but not until I think my son would leave him in his house. I have images of him going to school with it and stuff. Very cool. Good luck.

He is awesome!! Is he ''friendly'' I've been told they can have an attitude!

He's pretty friendly. I used to have a small pacman that used to try to snap at fingers, but Rex seems to tolerate being touched and handled pretty well. I've heard they can bite as well, but it seems in the times I've heard that, it's also that you hear of people swinging their fingers in front of the frog, looking like something tasty... and I think that's just asking for it. I pick him up lifting from the sides or behind, I don't really keep my hands in front of his face so he doesn't get any ideas... because pacmans ARE one of the toad species that has teeth so I feel the need to be extra careful....

When they're small we feed them crickets, but at Rex's size, he's eating some pinkie mice or pre-killed mice. The lady I got him from said he ate a mouse last week and he hasn't been interested in food since (I have crickets for my other toad, Rex doesn't want them) so (I assume) he must still be digesting the mouse.

Haha he is cute. He always looks like he's smiling. I guess because of his HUGE mouth, haha. I love em chubby too!!! LOL!

I've read they can get up to the size of a large dinner plate. Eek!! Haha he's huge as it is!

Can anyone say frog legs? Just kidding!!!! That is a big frog. We have some awefully big frogs like that in my area which are native to these parts. They are going around now and eating all the native frogs. I do love frogs, though. Does yours sing to you? I love to listen to a chorus of frogs. It would be nice to see what kind of setup you have for him.

Yay pacman frog! Cute blobs of cuteness! I loved mine. :) My best friend absolutely loved him so when I moved (and I knew I wouldn't have a pet store near me for crickets/mealies/and pinkies anymore) she asked me if she could take him. I knew she was a good home, so off he want. I still see him all the time. He is so cute (as is yours!)!

Here he was as a wee one.

Oh, you'll know when the mouse is digested. They make a HUGE poo with mouse hair and such in it. Kinda gross, but yeah, you'll know when it's feeding time again.

Neither of mine make any noises unless they're being picked up, they don't sing. :( Rex is a male though, because I read that only male pacman frogs ribbit. So I got me a boy, lol.

Right now, I don't have anything great for him as far as setup goes. :( Since I had intended to stick my new frog in with the current one, I just had to quickly throw something together when I got Rex, and so far all I have is a 10g acquarium with an under-the-tank heater, and a baking dish (that takes up about half the acquarium) filled with moss and warmish water in it. He mostly sits in the moss nice and buried. Once my mom stops by with my 20g, he'll be put in that and I'll have more room to decorate. :)

Essentia - good to know. He's only poo'd once here and it was just a little one with nothing in it, so I assume it's not feeding time yet then. Thanks!

I really laughed when I saw Kate's post about him being adorable. I thought only Kate would say that, then I saw him and he IS adorable! I love how chunky he is. He looks very stoic too so Rex is the perfect name for him as it means King!
