Hello all. I've been poking around the forum since Friday after my awesome boyfriend surprised me late Thursday night with a hedgie I showed him that was for sale online locally. Had I known he was going to go BUY him, I would have been a little more prepared, but it was more or less one of those 'man, i'd love to have a hedgehog, look how cute....' moments. Next thing I know, 'how cute' was being brought to me at 9pm. LOL
So, a bit about Oscar. He came from a home that I guess the girl didn't do much googling about HH care, nor did the breeder she got him from, who never mentioned ambient temp ranges, nor the fact that he needs plenty of room to live in, and that wood shavings aren't quite the best bedding for him.![Frown :( :(](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
So, he came to me in a bunny cage with a giant wheel, a giant hut, and a litter box. Poor dude pretty much had to tiptoe around all this stuff and had no room to stretch out. His underbelly is all red and irritated from the bedding, and his nose is all brown and scabby looking. I suppose it's been a good while since she even bothered to play with him, because when I emailed her and assured her he was going to be getting healthy and told her all the things wrong with him, she was like oh wow, really?![Frown :( :(](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
Fortunately for O-man, I come from a rehabilitation background, and have gotten lots and lots of different exotic pets healthy and happy. Oscar is 9 months old, so there is still plenty of time to show him what proper care and handling is all about.![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
So, here he is. My handsome little boy. Tonight will be the last night he spends in that horrid rabbit cage. Course, as I type this, it seems he'd be please as pie if his permanent home was one he burrowed into my couch!
Oh, and I'm Erica. Pleased to meetcha!
