if you look uneven towards your prom you can try a bronzing body oil for your white parts that match your tanned skin. Unlike self tanners, you usually won't streak and the effects only last until you take a shower. That way, you won't look uneven! & if you goof, just wash it off!

I am a redhead with blond eyelashes and blond eyebrows... so I burn the worst out of all fair-skined redheads.

I have had to live with sunburns my whole life and the ONLY thing that ever works is this disgusting sticky green gel called "aloe vera gel". You can get brand name or no-name. Either way, it works the same. Lather it on as frequently as possible!!!

That's what I've been using! I'm kind of afraid to try the apple cyder vinegar as someone told met that it will hurt like heck putting it on a burn.... Maybe I'll put it on a small part and see what that feels like lol. The sunburn is a lot better than what it was on Sat/Sun... but it's starting to peel a bit which sucks. Hopefully I can get the peeling over with by prom though...

Someone lied. It only hurts if you have open wounds, not on the sunburn itself. It doesn't even hurt if you've got peeling and blisters. It feels incredibly cooling on a sunburn, and will actually give you the chills.

What do you think people used before all these wonderful products came along at Wal-Mart and Walgreens? My mom is 80 years old and was using this stuff when she was a tot. :)

Jeanette - Red hair and freckles here, with skin so pale I'm a ghost. That green gel doesn't do a thing for me. It just makes me sticky and when it absorbs, it dries the skin out so badly that it hurts when I move.

Noxema used to work pretty well, but I don't even know if that stuff is still around. It still doesn't work as well as the vinegar though.

I am so burnt on one of my legs right now that it hurts to walk on it. I've soaked a double layer of paper towel in vinegar and laid it over the burn and it feels great. It's cool and soothing, doesn't hurt a bit.

What I am worried about is taking a shower. That's what hurts!

Wow, lots of red heads on the forum! I am the freak red head with super dark brown eyes so I can get a tan...but when I was a kid (haha I wrote kit) it was much worse. I remember not wanting to go to Disney Land I was burned so bad one vacation...ouch. The green aloe get also makes my skin feel tight and awful too...real aloe fresh out of a plant works better, but listen to Tunes, the apple cider vinegar is amazing..it has so many uses! I use it for everything...now I can add this to my list...my Nana never told me this!

Milk! Rub milk on it. It will smell bad cause the heat in your skin will make it curdle, but it actually works great!

Checking in as a redhead and from a long line of Scottish redheads also!! I've just finally learned to stay out of the sun and I'm not big on lakes or swimming pools either. Sunscreen doesn't work for me...even SPF 1000 applied every 5 minutes...LOL. I don't do well with heat anyways...you'll find me indoors during most of the summer!

Yeah, I burn like that. Nothing helps. I burn in the shade. But I can't stay away from the pool or the beach. Just stay covered up and in the shade.

I'm Italian with olive skin and I burnt yesterday! Made sure all the kiddies had sunscreen on but forgot to put it on myself.
I use this product from CVS that is blue it is aloe with lidocaine in it for pain.
I wuld also take some advil and either use after sun lotion or some kind of lotion several times daily to keep from peeling.
As for evening out tan lines, you could try a self tanner or spray on tan on the parts that did not get burnt or wear a dress with short sleeves OR wear a wrap (think someone mentioned that). i would wait til the prom gets closer before doing the spray tan though.

I'm naturally platinum blonde with very fair skin (I blend into my wedding dress) and blue eyes. I can burn in the middle of winter, simply by walking through a snow covered field on a semi-sunny day. I burned so badly one year that I blistered and now has white dots on my shoulders from skin cells I permanently damaged. What I found worked better than anything was slathering on aloe vera gel that I kept in the fridge (so it was cold!) and hanging out in front of a fan. When the aloe had soaked in, I ran myself a nice cool bath with a bit of oatmeal in it (similar to the whole oatmeal-in-a-sock trick that people use for chicken pox). I soaked in there for a good hour, patted myself dry and layered on the aloe again.

One week later, the red was completely gone, I didn't peel too horribly and my skin was a nice golden shade. I think I got pretty lucky, but I have a theory that the chilled aloe really helped.

Also, drink lots of water.

To even yourself up after the burn fades a bit, check out Mystic Tan or an airbrush tanning salon. The can touch up the pale areas that didn't get burned and avoid the areas that might be tanned from the burn fading. Go the day before and don't wear white clothing. It has a habit of rubbing off the day of.
