These types of ads makes you wonder if these people got taken when they adopted their animals or if they are so desperate for money that they are lieing to make a few extra bucks.

I've seen a few similar ads on Craigslist lately. The highest chin was $300 for a black. I'm no color expert, but the image looked like a standard to me...and it wasn't even an extremely dark standard.

For hedgehogs I saw a $400 hedgehog listed. No cages were mentioned in these ads, just the animals.

That is so sad! That chin on the right looks like he is holding on for dear life, what is he doing, trying to escape no doubt...? Just sad, poor chins...

People are being told that certain colors are "rare." Someone on CL wanted $200 for a chin simply because she was a white mosaic. I let him know that he was misinformed about the rarity of the color, and he lowered his monetary expectations.

The woman we got Trousers from said she was offered $3000 (which is a crock) for her once, but she turned it down because she wanted to breed her herself. All I can say is I'm glad we got her out of THAT situation!

$3000! WOW! That is crazy!! Do you have any idea of how long it would take for me to make $3000? It would take me months, and even then I would spend it all on food and chin things. I would love to make $3000 off of each baby chin, truthfully...but that is NEVER going to happen! LOL If I were making that much, I'd gladly offer a cage and all sorts of other "freebies!"

She wasn't right in the head (think of the cat lady off of The Simpsons). The point is some people believe what they are told, and if they come across an unscrupulous breeder or store, they will end up paying a lot more for a chin than necessary (the little store near me, while great in terms of supplies, charges $100 for a standard and $150 for a mosaic).

You're just breeding the wrong kind of chins. You need to get some of them thar fuzzy beasts from Texas and start raking in the bucks.

I'm going to start carrying all my chins by the tail and swinging them so the tails will fall off, then I can claim they are a new breed of chin and make ginormous amounts of monies!

Peggy - have you been drinking? :p (I'm kidding...)

You are right, I am breeding the wrong chins. I should start breeding those mythical types that don't really exist...LOL The mute I am working on right now cleans up after himself and then dusts and washes the windows. LOL They start at $4500 each... LOL

You know what the world needs? A chinchilla with TRICERATOPS horns!!! I would pay $3000 for one of those babies!!!

Someone get right on that... maybe cross with a Jackson's chameleon (as long as we're living in the realm of fantasy...)

A 45 lb chinchilla... just what I need, something else to chase my cats around the house!

Since we're dreaming here, can someone start working on one that poops quarters? Every 4 poos = $1.00, so he/she'd put a substantial dent in cost of care and upkeep over a 1 month span. Wait! I'll go check CraigsList. Maybe someone's giving one away for only a couple grand. ;)

I think it would be neat to have a curly coated chin... kind of like the abbey guinea pigs ya know...

I've dyed rabbits before... anyone want a pink, purple, or green chin? First $1000 takes 'em!
