I have recently put wood in place of my wire shelving. I have 2 female chinchillas that both like to pee in about three or four corners of the shelves.
Often this will puddle up, and generally cause a mess.

Does anyone else have "shelf pee-ers"? What do you do?
I've been wiping up with a paper towel, etc.

I'd like to put some litter trays in. Pyrex/glass is out of the question, they will have it thrown all over the cage and I don't want to risk broken glass.

I was thinking of getting some of those small aluminum foil pans (like, for baking) and some how affixing those to the cage.
Would that be safe for them? Would that aluminum be too thin, and able to be chewed - or would it be acceptable?

To clean my shelfs I use A mixture of vinegar and water, you just let it sit for a couple mins and then wipe it off! :)

I do! I've not swtiched him to wood shevles because he ONLY pees on his shelves. Doesn't pee on his liner. So we are battling (yes, battling. lol) over his pee places. I have chained a glass litter pan on the shelf the pees on the most. He spent about 3 hours trying to get that litter pan down before giving up and using it. So far, I'm winning.

You could get litter pans and chain them where they pee. Chaining them to the cage keeps them from knocking them off the shelf, which is good in case of more than one chin in the cage so the pan doesn't hit anyone down below.

how have you gone about chaining the litter pan to the cage?
i'm thinking of getting those little aluminum pans from the grocery for the purpose, i am hoping they will be safe.

we've got about three or four pee spots they like to use! it can get messy really quick with two of them ... ugh.
