My chinchilla was eating some of her pellets (Mazuri brand, eating it for many many months) and then she stood up and started pawing at her mouth. She opened her mouth and a clear saliva with some digested green pellet traces leaked out of her mouth. It was only a few drops. She seems to be behaving normally at the moment, though it looked like she was hiccuping just a moment ago without any sound. She is behaving normally right now. Is there any cause for alarm?? Thanks! A bit worried

She was most likely choking or she had a problem with something being stuck in her mouth that was irritating. If she's normal now, she cleared it out and should be fine. Just watch her and make sure that her behavior doesn't change or she doesn't start doing it again. It doesn't have anything to do with what she was eating.

I hope she's alright, she should be but watch her for a few hours. If you notice her sputtering or pawing at her mouth, you may want to take her to the vet to have her mouth looked at.

Thanks guys, she is 100% fine now after scaring us half to death! Absolutely no abnormal behavior after that. She was running on her saucer wheel right after and is eating and drinking normally!
