What is lichen on wood? I just did a batch of wood. I was wondering what it would look like if there was lichen on the wood. I want to be safe.

Lichen is a plant that grows on wood. It kind of looks like a crust most of the time, although there are different types.

Just google lichen and you will see many different pictures.

Normally it's on older growth like limbs and trunks, not normally on twigs. And it's normally either yellow, green, white, grey or sometimes red.

There is green on the twigs by where new twigs were just starting to grow out. I did look at pictures, but I wanted to check here and see what people thought before I feed my boys these twigs...

You could always post pictures if you're worried about it. But it's probably the new growth on the twigs.

In all the twigs I've prepared I've never had lichen on them if they're pencil sized or smaller. It seems like the lichen normally doesn't grow quick enough for it to be on the smaller twigs. I've seen them though on twigs that are around 1/2" to 1" thick

Unless it's fuzzy, then it could be mold if they didn't dry out completely.

Lichen is algae + fungus, not plant.

Probably you're seeing the bud of new growth.

Thank you. I just wanted to make sure. I was just wanting to be safe with my boys. Thanks! And it's probably not mold since I just scrubbed and baked them yesterday. :)

It is toxic for chins. That is why I was concerned lol.
