I think the OP probably sent the PM on the 16th, it was only a few days ago...and the PM was relayed after the 16th anyways. I'm not really sure what all the confusion is about.

If the chin is better, I'm glad. Maybe it didn't have a sprain and just had a sore leg or something of that nature. Well, I guess hypothesizing won't do much in this case since none of us know. Ah, well, such is life.

Having spent five figures on vet care in the past year, I can empathize with not wanting to get in over your head, but for those of you who don't know about Care Credit, check into it. We were able to save up enough while paying small monthly payments (no interest) until we could pay it all off.

I'm very sad that no updates were given by the OP on the chin. I've not been able to get on here in a while and just browse, and threads like this always make me sad. I'm worried that someone who genuinely could use the support and help might not feel comfortable coming back here, but at the same time, clearly the OP was looking for a quick fix that wasn't there.

A bad situation all around.

yeah. i should actually correct myself..when i said sprain i didnt mean like an actual sprain. she never said sprain in the message so i duno why i typed that lol i just meant like a soreness/something very minor that was better by the next day.

i dont know why so many of you continue to assume things.

the animal is fine.. this forum is about chinchillas is it not? the object of the original post was to get a chinchilla who was better. it healed on its own..didn't end up being something more serious..
obviously nobody will ever know the exact conditions..but its barely worth going on about when there are other posts on this forum with people who need advice for their animal.

Many times though it doesn't end up being something that will heal up on it's own. I've had people bring me chins with missing limbs. After asking what happened to the chin they will tell me a similar story. That is, the chin got caught up in something and the leg was broken or sprained. At that point the chin is left alone to heal up and it ends up chewing its own leg off.

If you want to know why I react a certain way, well, it's because I have seen people ignore problems and not deal with them in an appropriate way. It isn't good for someone to come on here and act like a possible break/fracture/sprain isn't a big deal. We could end up with future readers looking at this thread with the idea that vet care isn't necessary.

So, this animal that is now fine never went to the vet? Is that safe to assume? If it was so minor, why was it even brought up in a thread in the first place?

I deal with chinchilla people pretty much constantly. I spend my life on the phone with people having chinchilla problems and needing an answer. You know what? Not one of those people ever sends me money even though I pick up the phone and try to help them however I can. The ONE thing that I think people should do to make it up to me is follow my advice when I ask them to go seek veterinary care. I'm sick and tired of people wanting to get away with this "let's just see what happens" thing and thinking they can get away with not doing the right thing.

YEAH! This forum is about chinchillas...and that is why there was concern expressed and why advice was given. Should we just ignore people that seem like they are going to just ignore us? (Maybe we should...)

Nice post Susan. :)

I also want to point out that those of us who have been on the boards for quite a while (I'm talking 5+ years) have seen this same thing over and over. We're used to people who lie because they don't/won't/can't seek veterinary care. So suddenly there is a miraculous cure. Yes, there are other threads here (and you really should read my previous post about self-policing, since I didn't say it to hear myself talk), but THIS thread is what may attract a newbie and they will think it's just fine and dandy to let an animal go without vet care when they may need it because someone got a mysterous pm that said everything is wonderful again.

Death's door to full recovery in 1 day without a vet is a common theme in this section, either that or the OP does not come back to post a update because the chin died.
