Hi all! My girl Tilly who is now around 6 years old has been laying in her pee for the first time. We switched to fleece about a year ago now and she wasn't doing that before.

Yesterday, her whole face was wet with pee as well as her chest! I know its pee because of the yellow stains. At first I was afraid she had gotten in a fight with her cagemate and was bit underneath the mess but with a thorough checking that is not the case. In addition, she seems sleepy to me (her eyes are half closed everytime i look at her whether she is eating or just sitting). I thought maybe this is because she is not a baby anymore and doesnt have quite as much energy, but then again she isnt old either!!

Could this be indicative of an illness and she is not caring as much about cleanliness because of it or am i over paranoid?

Please share common stories or tips : / you guys are so great at helping I dont know what I would do without the forum

My ricky drinks his pee when he pees on the fleece in his play area, yet he has a full water bottle in his cage, though he does drink that too.

You might want to consider getting her teeth checked out. I know that malo causes drooling which i've heard can be yellow when dried. Dont want to scare you but, she should probably be checked.

You may want to consider a litter pan for the pee corner; it might help with absorbtion and encourage her to lay elsewhere!

hmm good idea. I have litter pans and didnt even think of that

I have a couple of lay in their pee - It is fustrated because one of them I wanted to show but she is always yellow because no matter where I put her sleeping area she pees in it first. However they have done that always. It is strange that a chin should all of sudden to it after 6 years

boy did I type wrong I meant to say 'a couple that lay in their pee'. and It is frustrating (not frustrated). Also I see I ran on and on - my bad. I need to check before sending

i have one guys that just pees all over, so i made some custom fleece covers for the shelves, so if he pees on them at least they are absorbed a bit. maybe if you cover up some of the spots she is peeing and add a litter box it will help. Igo to the dollar store and use the metal brownie/cake pans as my litter boxes. i know there is dollar tree up north, that is where i get them from. also try & put some soiled shavings in there, that way she will know what it is for.

I think I am going to have her checked for malo. She had her teeth done years ago.. I am putting it all together now and she has also lost interest in chewing her sticks so I think this is something to be concerned about
