Kennel Cough

Can chinchillas catch kennel cough from dogs? I wanted to take Gary by my dad's but he said his dog (yorkie) has slight kennel cough. The dog will be kept outside while Gary and I are there, but I'm not sure if he could catch it from germs in the house.. Please help!

Certain strains of it have been known to wipe out entire herds.

Edited to post the "symptoms" though by the time you notice they're supposedly mostly dead.

It's passed by being airborne (sneezing), contact, etc. It takes less than 24 hours from introduction to mass deaths, within three days one had lost 75% of his animals. Don't know the specifics but the only thing that saved either of them from total loss was the fact that their pelters were kept in separate buildings away from the breeding herd.
