Now I have to wonder if some of her food change is a preference. Baby cat has a lot more fat in it which probably tastes better.

Yes, my little piggie is likely to do such a thing. RCBC is 24% fat compared with the 8-12% of the others she was on.

I know some of the changes aren't due to just the increased yumminess associated with fat content - eg, the smaller meals spread over time. Or her initial decrease in food intake. I've also seen her have some difficulties with mealies that she hasn't had before - her total favorite thing in the world.

So now I'm thinking, if we're looking at another 6mos to a year... do I want her on RCBC the whole time? A: probably not. And what do to about that... hrmmm...

5/20/2011... one month, two weeks, and two days post diagnosis and Satin was feisty as ever this morning. Yep, she has a continuously growing tumor in her lower jaw and has changed her eating habits (smaller meals with smaller kibbles more frequently), but she's hanging in there.

She greets me every morning and evening with a soft huff - alerting me to exactly where she is and that she knows I'm there. She stands up when I get near, so I can slide my fingers underneath and pick her up for snuggle time. Miss Satin is such a sweetheart.

I know she won't be with us forever... that stupid lump grows every day. But, for now, she's here and looking beautiful. She's on my Ride page. This year I plan to ride in her honor, rather than in her memory. I hope that tumor will accommodate those plans - relaxing its grasp on my little girl.

We've actually managed to go "up" a step to RC Kitten - small x's with a fat content in between that of her regular kibble and Baby Cat. I put in 1/3 of each (regular mix; Kitten; Baby Cat). She's been eating around 6-7g of the two RC's over the course of 24hrs; ignores the regular stuff. And has issues with mealies... some get thrashed, but not fully eaten. Her enthusiasm for them hasn't changed a bit though. Loves the mealies! ATTACK!!!!

6/7/2011... Baby girl is 4 years, 2 months, and 12 days old now.

She continued to have a sparkle in her eyes this morning, but it's getting tough for her. We've moved back down to RC Baby Cat as Kitten was getting too big/difficult. She's been eating around 3-5g per night, so I'm supplementing with soft food.

The tumor has reached a size where she can no longer close her mouth fully... so, in addition to adaptations to eating, we have a bit of a drool issue whenever she's lying on her side to sleep. mealworms are too small, but she's found a new bug that suits her: waxworms - particularly the fat ones. After figuring out they were food, she appeared quite excited! It's nice to see that enthusiasm.

Our morning ritual continues as always... the soft huff, standing, snuggling, then running back under her blankie after I set her back down. I can see differences in our nighttime ritual though. She's more prone to snuggling than exploring... though she continues to climb when she wants to. She seems to like resting the affected area right on my fingers - I think maybe it feels better to her when something is pressing against it. We talk about what she would like to do... if it's all getting too much for her. For now, I see enough spunk and sparkle in her eyes that we just keep adapting to new circumstances as they evolve, snuggle a bunch, and make sure she gets her meds and plenty of love.

She sounds like so much fun, Melissa. I hope you get to enjoy each other's company for a while longer. Best wishes for you and your piggies.

Thanks Kate.

I have that sort of vomity feeling today. Satin was as active as ever this morning, but her jaw has really shifted. Hedgiedaddy wondered aloud how much longer this can go on.:broken:

Tonight, her bottom front two teeth have moved completely off to the side of her front "fangs." I found bruising - blue - on her chest where her chest lump has been. She was crazily active. HD and I are not sure how to interpret. She's eaten 2 waxies; couldn't eat any mealies.

I'll pick her up again in awhile.

I know. She's settled now... sniffing around like usual. Pain meds seem to have kicked in and she's hungry. I'm holding her some more now... just about to get some more food. she's licking my fingers and anointing. My baby. I love her. We see her vet tomorrow.

Good luck at doc's today. I'm happy to hear she is enjoying the waxworms. Hang in there.

Turned out to be a bit of a fail on a waxworm from last night. She pooped one out whole this morning :( Mostly whole, that is. Looks like her body was able to digest the head end, then the rest came out a lot like it looked when it went in. HD looked a bit alarmed as he was holding her when it was coming back out the other end; I grabbed a tissue.
