I always give them a big brown paper bag folded down to make a little house. That seems to be something that is so interesting to mad little chins. :) Don't worry about switching him over with his pellets, he will be fine. I used to switch slowly, but now it isn't even worth it - I just give them the good stuff and very rarely do they have problems. The acidophilus helps tremendously.

hehe Charlie Pants! That's a good name for Mr. Charles. :D

We are home now. I did a quick exam on him. He is severely emaciated and is of course chewed horribly. His teeth are in good shape even though he had nothing to chew on, but his teeth are white as snow. He has a vet appointment tomorrow and we will definitely get some CC in him to put on weight.

I wouldn't feed him CC unless he just doesn't eat pellets on his own. He will gain weight on his own terms just by eating a quality chin pellet. Lifeline may be a good thing to consider- when I was working with my rescue chin who was emaciated, I sprinkled it over his pellets or just let him eat it from the spoon.

Congratulations, so glad the little guy has a wonderful home with you :)). Your boyfriend gets big props for being a sweetie too :heart3:.

Aw yay. I love a happy story. He is such a cutie and I'm glad you were able to get him! Congrats on the newest addition.

so happy you picked up that sweet guy! Congratz to you and to him for now he will have the wonderful spoiled chinnie life he deserves!

The vet appointment went well today. I took some poop into class today and ran a fecal and everything looked fine and the vet confirmed.

They gave me some CC just in case he needs it for whatever reason.

He definitely has a calcium deficiency but his teeth are in proper alignment and length.

He's has settled in nicely so far. I go in to check on him every one in a while and I catch him all sprawled out or curled in a ball in his hammock. He's living the good life. :)

Awww, I'm so glad you picked that poor little guy up. Can't wait for pics and updates on him after you fatten him up and give him the love he needs. I wouldn't give him CC either; just pellets, hay, water and Lifeline would be nice as well as a good supplement if you have one. =)

I'm so happy you got to bring him home. He has such a sweet face. Kisses for your new love bug. Can't wait to see after pictures.

I have a quick question since I have never had to deal with this.

The vet said he has a calcium deficiency due to the color of his teeth and has told me to prevent jumping or allowing him to do anything that would harm his bones due to this.

His top teeth are a very faint yellow but the bottoms are white with no hint of yellow or orange at all.

Here's a picture. Not the best as it's hard to restrain with one hand and take a picture with the other, but you can see the coloring :p

I heard cuttle bone is supposed to help? I still have a cuttle bone from when I had my turtle, but how much do I give and for how long?

Thanks

Aw, poor little guy - so lucky he went home with you!

Not sure on the cuttlebone specifics, but I believe you can also supplement with more alfalfa hay to help with the calcium deficiency.

I was thinking alfalfa hay as well given that there was just a discussion about it in the debate section. How old is this lil guy and how long was he in that pet shop? It's sad they were so clueless about chins. :(

His life just got WAY WAY better now and you'll have to post pics and updates on him.

They say he is around 10 months old. They said they get them in at 4 months so he has been there since that age so about 6 months.

Ugg, six months of crappy care. Poor thing. I wonder how long it will take for you to bring him back up to tip-top shape. He is quite young so hopefully he'll bounce back soon.
