Claire - this vet is actually touch and go when it comes to my hogs, depending on the vet I see. The last vet I saw at this practice managed to get bitten by Kismet, who NEVER bites. She tried to manually uncurl her by gripping her visor quills and then working a finger into her belly. The vet apparently specialized in small animals, so I was very hesitant to take her back. It was, however, the only vet with an opening that day, so I decided to try my luck.

Shetland - if you hug them, I'm checking your pockets before you leave!

Debbie - I HOPE that's what Cuda is thinking. He's actually fairly upset right now because he's used to a set schedule and the medicine rotation is messing that up. He's used to me getting up at 6:30 and then turning the lights off for good around 10pm. With the girls on medicine, I'm up at 6am and then I turn the light on again at 11pm and midnight to medicate. Since the rest of the house is kept cooler, I'm trying not to take the ill hogs out of my room. They're both prone to hibernation, and that's one problem I just don't want to deal with right now. Luckily for Cuda, the schedule will be changing back to something more in tune with what he prefers - I'm cutting out Kismet's middle dose of Sulcrate (per the vet's recommendation) and she's off Metacam. I'm going to move her evening dose to 6pm and 7pm, which is exactly 12 hours from her morning dose.

It seems to me that your vet scenario is not very satisfactory - your other thread and this one make for somewhat contradictory and confusing reading - I am glad you managed to find a vet but I can't help wondering what you are going to do in the longer term in order to secure a regular and consistent hedgie-competent vet? I think it would potentially save you a lot of hassle/drama and be of huge benefit to your animals in terms of consistency etc if you could find and keep a regular vet.

Hi Claire. Again, thank you for your concern. I do have a regular vet at Ottewell Clinic, but she did not have an opening. My secondary vet that did Kismet's spay is booked up for the next few weeks. The vet that normally sees exotic animals only works part time, and she books up quickly.

Thank you again, and I would prefer if the topic of my vet could be dropped. I made this thread to ask for input on Kismet's individual situation, not to be questioned or lectured about the vet availability. I believe I've explained the situation as fully as I can and unfortunately, I cannot control the vet availability in Edmonton.

Also, since I re-read my previous response and it seems confusing: I visited Park Vet with Kismet on Monday and saw Dr. Kwantes. He was very good to her, and very gentle. The first time we went to Park, she was seen by a Dr. Bousquet. That was the vet who didn't handle her very gently and caused this change in Kismet.

Mods, can this thread be closed? I think it's served as useful a purpose as it can. Thanks.

Actually Courtney your defensiveness is totally unnecessary - I was simply trying to understand your situation - what a pity you seem to have taken umbridge. There is no lecturing in my posts, just concern expressed for your animals, brought about by the confusing and contradictory posts you have put over 2 threads.
At this point I will leave you to it since any questions seeking clarification are clearly unwelcome.
