Any experience??? I would have to save up for it though. They say it is inexpensive, but those cube shelves aren't cheap...unless you are lucky to find someone on craigslist or whatever looking to get rid of them. They are generally $24-$30 just for 4 cubes, and if you are going to build a double decker cage for 2 hedgies that is 3 cubes long and 2 cubes wide, plus storage underneath...Yeah, I am definitely looking for a steal on craigslist for those.

C&C cages are great. They ship really fast, too. My guinea pigs seem to really love their cage. I tried looking on Craigslist and other classified sites, but I never found them anywhere, so I just bought them directly from the website. And the coroplast comes already cut, so that makes things easier.

I just made one for my rabbit - target sells sets of cubes for $20 on sale. They do have two different sized spacings in one box but I was okay with that. And a huge sheet of corrugated plastic cost me $20. It was super easy to cut the corrugated plastic with a box cutter.
Warning: You'll need loads more zip ties than you think. I made the cage in one afternoon - wish I'd done it sooner!

Lots of places sell the grids including Walmart. Make sure you get the ones that have 9 openings across. Less than that and the openings are big enough for hedgie to get through.

Hedgehogs need to have a lid and the easiest way to make a lid is with wire closet shelving cut to fit a couple inches wider than the grid.

One issue with the C&C cages is most wheels are higher than the grids so using a lid is difficult.

You can also make an awesome cage out of closet shelving and you don't have to worry about climbing. If you use 16" shelving, you don't have to worry about wheel height either. Take a look here for some cages made of closet shelving.

IMO, wire shelving makes a superior cage and wire shelving is sold at all home improvements stores and you can get them to cut it for you.

That wire shelving looks very nice too. I am starting to wonder to myself, why don't I just get a double decker animal cage. What are the advantages of building your own out of materials?
