He's not a tree person. They have been growing on the property since he bought it 20 years ago so he isn't sure.

I'll just take the branch to the nursery (thanks for the suggestion!) to see if they know.

I think you're right! Reading the description it does sound a lot like it. That mintyish (which I guess was more evergreenish) smell is also explained by it being an evergreen.
