laurie--werent you at my house watching my favorite Elvis movie (bad habit)! lol

alli--i completely agree about the role model thing. i just hope there are pet lover parents out there that can inform the young children

but as for the adult football fans, if Vick is scoring and the team is winning all the dogs that died in vain will not be given a second thought by them. which is sad.

i think he should donate his salary to pet shelters.................

i think he should donate his salary to pet shelters.................

I think that idea has been thrown about in some of the sports editorials. Not his whole salary but 5% of it or so. I suppose that will be up to him and he might do it to 'prove that he has been rehabilitated'. Even if he does do that, I still think he's a s**t.

A majority of the population believes he should be reinstated, I saw the poll on ESPN. I don't agree.
Perhaps a majority of the segment of the population that logs into the ESPN website... may not be truly representative of the population as a whole.

I don't think his sentence was long enough for what he did to those poor dogs. It still makes me sick to my stomach, but I'm glad most of the dogs are in loving homes now.

I think we should let loose some fighting dogs on him... just a thought...!

Problem is that, even after what they went through because of this "man" and his employees, the pibbles in rehab right now generally aren't human aggressive. They were taught to play too rough/hunt other dogs, but if you've got a fighting dog you can't get into a ring to fight b/c it's trying to take your hand off, you won't make any money.

Of the dogs confiscated from his property in VA, only a few were so psychologically damaged they were euthanized without a chance at rehabilitation. One of those that came close to the needle was helped to recover by John Garcia of the Best Friend's Animal Sanctuary in Utah, and she's now called Georgia. She's been on Ellen, and other shows too iirc, enjoying the daylights out of human attention. This is a dog that, after she was 'proven' in the ring, had her teeth removed *by a vet* and was probably repeatedly strapped to a breeding stand so there was no chance of her injuring the stud dogs. If any of them had a reason to become human aggressive, it's Georgia, and yet, here's her appearance on Ellen in December of last year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dAeQfUgPtI

One of the Vicktory dogs, called Halle, was just adopted on the 18th by a woman who already has a pibble from Best Friends. The dogs, it seems, are on their way to rehabilitation. But I don't think the man behind the money that victimized them is, and I doubt he'll ever be. :(

I want the felons off the field, starting with Vick! :waiting:

I really hate to say this, but I think you have to high of expectations for your average football fans. :(

Ohyeah, and if you guys want to come down for a beach vacation for an alibi, that's fine by me. And it's only a 5 hour drive to Atlanta..... :D

You're probably right, but in Canada... football isn't as high ranking as it is in the states. In an ideal world, even "celebrities" would have to pay the price for their actions.

We can always hope he has a career-ending injury...

Now this I strongly disagree with. I agree that I would have hoped he wasn't reinstated. But I won't wish injury, especially a permanent one, upon another human being - even if they did something I find horrendous a few years ago.

And really, the more I think about it, he has committed a rather lengthy sentence for something that, sadly, has been a part of life in the south for a very long time. It's wrong (trust me, I agree with that) but it's so much easier to fall to doing 'wrong' things if it's a part of the culture. Think of slipping into the life of a prostitute, and how much easier that has to be in Vegas.

I'm hoping that this debacle has shown him exactly how horrible these sorts of abuse crimes are, and that he sincerely has changed because of that knowledge. I don't know, but I hope as I would hope for anyone in that situation.

I do think that as a general rule, people should get a second chance. He did his time. I do hope he finds his place in life and it's a peaceful one. But I don't want to see him on MY football team. Then again, he deserves his opportunity to have a second chance. We'll see what he does with it - one way or another. Time will tell.

I just watched this video an cried at the sight of that black dog cringing at the end of the leash. Poor, poor dog. And Georgia with all her teeth pulled and used as a sparring dog for other fighting dogs. I simply cried.

That's my instinct too, and then I see pictures of Halle with her new family, or Georgia getting lovings from total strangers that used to think "Pibbles are Evil" and I realize how much good has come from this. Those 22 dogs that Best Friends took in are *so* happy now, as are the people who get to live with them and train them daily. Another great example of a Vicktory dog is Hector, who went to Bad Rap kennels in San Francisco and then to Roo Yori, the owner/trainer of the World Class Frisbee pit bull Wallace (who he saved from death row in a shelter in Minnesota). There's video of him here: http://www.pitbullunited.com/wallacethepitbull/

Another Vicktory dog, Leo, got his canine good citizen and therapy dog certification, and spends his days visiting cancer and dialysis patients in hospitals in California... wearing a big floofy clown collar. He just goes around the room getting petted by chemo patients, plunking that big square head in their laps. The fear and suffering doesn't last long with dogs once they get into a proper environment. They're so much more forgiving and focused on the here and now than humans. Notice, none of those dogs from Vick's property are still cowering in corners shaking. We're the ones that are pissed off on their behalf; they just want cushions and treats and toys and love.

I've told my husband this: whatever team takes him back (which would disgust me to no end), I will not watch the game if the Packers play them. If the Packers sign him, I'm not watching their games ever again.

Well if the Packers play against him or sign him it's easier for me to do my task since I'm in Wisconsin! No worries though we wouldn't sign Moss when Favre wanted him so I'm sure we won't sign Vick LOL.

My son just heard on the car radio he's been spotted at O'hare, on his way to an interview with the Bears!!
Wish I'd known - could've picked him up in a limo full of his favorite dogs!!
Really hope they pass on him - even for $50 a year, we don't need that kind of negativity!!

Oh, please. I hope he doesn't come here to Chicago. I hope NO ONE wants him, but my sons assure me someone will sign him. I don't like football in general, anyway, I just don't want him here on the Bears.

I still can't believe the NFL let him come back! He's no role model for kids at all. He deserves nothing, except being in a room covered in steak with hungry pit bulls. LOL justice served! On a serious note, he should never be allowed to own ANY animal, even a fish! I am hoping the Steelers will pass him right up!(not sure if they even were meeting with him, but I hope not!)
