I'm aware of hair rings but have never done a check. I have seen both of my boys check themselves many times. If I can see them checking themselves and see no hair anywhere around them, should I still do checks myself? Sometimes my boy Zeb checks himself like three times a day... I honestly think he does it for the **** of it sometimes.

Also, if he is cleaning himself that often he may very well have a hair ring that needs to be removed. It could be irritating him, hence the excessive cleaning.

Handbag and I have a new, more intimate relationship now. lol

HAHAHA! Hair ring checks go pretty quick here, I have BF hold the chinny while I have "the honors". It takes longer to calm Dexter down and get him comfortable than it does to do the actual check. Crazy boy!

Okay, I did a hair check. I am pretty sure I pulled it out all the way and he had no hair. I checked him without a designated holder, too and it wasn't even that bad!

Has anyone been bitten when checking for fur rings?

My male chin is 2 years old and in good health but I have never restrained him and actually held him, I was told when I bought him from the breeder he wouldn`t have the problem because he is my only chin and only breeders would have to deal with it. He is very sweet and loves to be petted and does sit on my lap but not for long. I am 69years old and this kind of worries me as I don`t want to get bit. Any suggestions on how to go about this and how many of you have gotten bit doing this.

Thanks alot

Waldo is really funny, he just stretches out in my hand and lets me check, Furby and Ralphy, well it's usually a more-than-one-person job to get a check done

 I need chin Viagra here too. I hate this job. Not because of the "man bits"..........just the wiggling involved. Geez!!

I'll answer the question about not getting bit. Wrap your little man like a burrito in a towel. Might take you a few times to wrap him up. None of my boys have bitten me.

I had an intuitive feeling my Riku had a hair ring yesterday so he got his first check. I managed to get him to stop wiggling too much long enough to get the hair ring up almost to the end before I had to call in the husband to hold him. I think it was more uncomfortable for the husband than for us though! I was relieved to be able to help him out, but I hope he forgives me. He's not quite used to being held yet, but he's getting better about it.
