Poor little guy! How uncomfortable it must be with all that skin flaking off, and those scabs on his ears :(

I emailed Tiggywinkles with a couple of ideas and this is the reply I received.

Thank you so much for your suggestion.

We have received a number of different suggestions for treatments and foods and will be looking into several of them to see what will benefit our poor little hedgehog.

He has of course been tested for all the ailments we see so often in many of our hedgehogs casualties, such as ring worm, mange, lung worm and so on. All have come back negative. The biopsies have also produced no cause to his skin problems and baldness.

Hopefully with some of the ideas we are now receiving, we will be able to get this little one back on the road to recovery.

We will be posting an update on our website, so please keep an eye on www.tiggywinkles.com for more information.

Fingers crossed that they find something to help Spud.

I was shocked into tears by this little guy.
I showed it to my boyfriend, (who is really good at hiding emotions) and I could see the compassion in his face too. I'm so glad that Spud has people that will love him and take care of him for the rest of his happy life!

Poor Spud. This is what Mirabelle looked like when I got her only she had about 50% of her quills. Her skin improved drastically and quills grew back under Nikki's care. We believe it was the result of severe malnutrition. Obviously this is not the case here. Hopefully Spud is adapting well.

That is so very distressing. Poor spud! I'm glad he found some nice people to take care of his dry flaky skin, Soooo itchy!

It really looks like mange to me, the thick skin around the ears and eyes and flaking skin.

It could be some sort of allergy. I had a dog once that started balding because of allergies. That must make the little guy really itchy - poor thing! x<
