So, I spent this weekend up at my dad's. On the way home on Tuesday night, I took a side trip through Rochester on my way back to school to pick up an FN from somebody who was selling it on CL. Well, I made the mistake of saying to myself, "hey, as long as I'm going through Rochester, what else can I fend on CL?" Mistake. I found an ad for a chinnie girl, but there wasn't much info other than that she came with her cage and there was a re-homing fee of $50. Hey! Cool! So, I e-mailed the person and said I'd take her.

Well, she was in a tiny cage (maybe 20"x20"x"20). She didn't have any real bedding...just folded up newspaper (which had stained her sweet little chin...ech!). Her dust bath was in there with her all the time, and they were using the super cheap gritty stuff that came with the "house". Because of this, her poor little ears are all dry and flaky. I got some bag balm to fix that... She did have a treat ka-bob, but it had little mineral blocks, not wood. She had one of those plastic igloos. And the food she had...mostly dried fruit. I don't even know what brand of food it was...I'm doing a cold switch to Oxbow w/acidophilus as we speak, because they didn't have any extra food to send with me. She also was not being given any hay. :hair:

This was so frustrating!!! But, she's beautiful. She's a super pale beige color with kind of purple eyes...I remember reading somewhere about this mutation, but can't remember what it's called. Help? The lady I got her from was told that she was an "albino". And her name *was* Blanco. How original, eh? I re-named her Suki (or Sooki...which spelling do you guys prefer?) on the ride home. The person I got her from also said she was about nine months old, and that she was one month old when she got her. So, I'm just gonna add a month onto that and say her birthday is July 4th. Hooray!!!

She's very skittish right now and kacks if I put my hand too close to her, but other than that, she's fine. Once I catch her (like I have to do to put Bag Balm on her ears), she's just fine and is totally calm and downright friendly. She's not eating a lot of the pellets yet, but she seems to love the hay... Big surprise. Her poos are teensy, but are starting to get a little more tick-tack sized. I'll be moving her into the boys' old cage just as soon as I get their new (old) FN all cleaned and set up. She'll be a lot happier in there, I think.

I don't have any pictures of her yet, but will post them in this thread just as soon as I do. I'll also post some pics of her cage now, with all of her new stuff. All in all, I'm pretty glad I had this little accident. She's a great girl.

Aw, good for you! Congrats on your new chin! Sounds like a homo beige to me.

And I like the spelling Suki as I prefer Japanese names. But that's just me!

Can't wait to see pics!

And I wouldn't worry terribly too much right now if she's not eating a ton of pellets. So long as she's eating tons of hay it's a good sign.

Congrats on the rescue! She sounds beautiful. Gald you were able to wisk her away. I like Suki, great name.

Congrats on your new chin! She is lucky to have found you!

I like the Japanese spelling of Suki - very cute name.

As long as she is eating plenty of hay, that'll keep things moving in her G.I. tract. It'll also aid in the food transition... I've had to do cold turkey switches with rescues before and as long as they are eating plenty of hay and have probiotics (I use acidophilus), they transition without any G.I. issues.

Can't wait to see pictures of her! By the description, she does sound like a homo beige which just means she is homozygous (homo=same; she has two of the same genes) for beige. Homo beiges are normally lighter and more creamy looking than a heterozygous (hetero) beige and have lighter jellybean-like eyes.

good for you - One less chin that is unproperly cared for. She is lucky you found her I love the name Suki. Do you happen to know what it means (just curious)??

CL was my chinchilla downfall. We started out with one... which turned into two... which has become our three lovely ladies! Good for you for getting her out of that situation!!! I like the name Suki; I think it's really pretty :):yells at self for not thinking of it first!::)

Congrats on the new chinbaby!! :)

I was just looking around for the meaning... The literal Japanese meaning is "to like"...so it's a verb. The more liberal/logical name translation is "beloved". :)

Congrats on your new chin. I prefer "Suki". I also had to switch Boing cold turkey from a cheap food only sold in Quebec so Oxbow. No problem ever, and he even gain weight (healthy weight)

My boyfriend had a dog named Suki that was a tan color ^-^ just be sure she doesn't get a lot of treats or she may become extremely obese like the Suki he had

I like "suki" ;) I had a chinnie named Suki-Deshu which I beleive translates to "you like it don't you?" I just thought it was kind of cute, and I called her Suki for short.
