My family and I are currently changing the pellets for our two chins from Kaytee Fiesta Max (which was recommended by the pet store) to Oxbow. I was thinking of 2/3 old pellets (Kaytee) and 1/3 new pellets (Oxbow). Would that be OK ? How long should I wait until I change the mixture to more of the Oxbow and so on ? I read in another forum that switching the food too quickly is not good for the chins. Does anyone have any advice? :hmm:

i would do a cold switch. the fiesta food is horrible food, and the sooner you get them off it the better.

so just toss the fiesta onto the front lawn for the birds and start feeding the Oxbow. ensure you give plenty of hay for the next while, as the chins may refuse to eat the Oxbow for the first little while. they'll cave eventually, once they realize they aren't getting any more of their crud fiesta food.

Yes a cold switch is probably best in this case. When I have done a switch from Mazuri to Purina rabbit show I simply kept bowls of each and they did it themselves.

that's good pellet to good pellet switch though, addicted. fiesta is such a junk food feed that i don't think any chin would readily eat quality pellets over it, if given the choice.

im used to ferrets, who are picky eaters and not always receptive to switching their foods. (tho iv been lucky with mine recently). But when i had to switch the type of food for my chins, i did the same thing. Mixxing them and voer time increaseing the good food and decreaseing the bad food. Untill after the first day i noticed they ate all the new food and wasnt touching the old food anymore 0.0

Im used to ferrets nearly starving themselves in protest from years past, so i was truly amazed when i saw this. It might be a rare thing, im not sure. But it was amazing

I implemented the cold switch yesterday and checked the food this morning. They are eating the oxbow @ a slower rate, but it is reassuring that they are eating (a quality pellet):clap1:. Thanks again CnH fam

when i rescued ramona they had her on some kind of no brand rabbit food with no hay and some cheap sun seed dust. i gave her oxbow timothy hay and pellets with some blue cloud dust shes been lovin her life ever since.

:update: Whats up CnH, I just wanted to say that Roxy and Julliet are eating just fine now. I think they eat more of the oxbow know than they did when my family and I where feeding them the kaytee fiesta pellets. Alright CnH fam just wanted to give a conclusion to the thread, talk everyone later :wave3:
